WHO: Sulu and Chekov
WHAT: Awkward, post-rejection interactions
WHEN: Around their shift? Afterwards?
WARNINGS: Teenage angst and awkwardness

Pavel Chekov was, admittedly, not handling his first major heartbreak with all the grace he would've liked to. It was actually fairly embarrassing, the way he continued to try and avoid Hikaru Sulu like his body were on some kind of autopilot away from him, and the way he couldn't seem to form regular words or natural smiles when he saw him anymore.

He knew there was nothing he could do at this point aside from just accepting it, and by god he was trying, but all the movies and books he'd ever consumed in his lifetime had never made it seem this hard.

Still, Sulu had said they should still be friends...And they did make excellent helm partners, and the safety of the ship depended on them getting along...And...Well. As upset as he was, Pavel didn't want to lose Sulu all together. It hurt, but, he had a feeling that that would hurt much worse.

He raked a hand through his hair, trying and failing to untangle the curls. The bridge had just emptied out and their shift was nearing a close. Pavel hadn't spoken a word aside from answering questions and orders all day.

He cast a sideways glance to the pilot beside him, felt a pang of disappointment well up in his throat, and wrinkled his nose. Okay...acting normal. Yes. He could do that. Small talk...Just like before, right?

"...You seem very tired, Sulu, is everything alright?" There. Expressing concern was good, right? Even though he was fairly sure that he was the cause of the pilot looking so uncomfortable..."..I, ah, mean, it has been a long day, da?"

Oh god. What had he gotten himself into?
