It was probably the posting that got cancelled, they may have lost funding for that position or the incumbent decided not to leave. Did the email say they had selected someone?

it did not say? do they usually tell you? this is my first time applying for a state job without using a paper PD-107.

Sometimes. Apparently they can customize the emails that the system sends but it sounds like they just let it send you the default email. But, if they had hired someone, instead of cancelled, I think it should have said Filled.
