It's in the job description. I think he's intelligent enough to circumvent personal disasters that could hurt his term, but no one is exempt from criticism- especially with the bag he was left holding. It really doesn't matter what he does at this point because he's already going to be remembered for altering history. One can hope he can somehow attain glory beyond that through his future deeds, but even if he didn't it wouldn't be a great letdown for most people. Here's hoping.
It is somewhat part of the job, definitely, and I also think part of his potential to be great is in his ability to roll with the punches and move forward from controversy with grace. And I agree that this will always be remembered as a pivotal moment in history. But I do think there's a contingent of people who have pinned so many of their hopes and dreams upon him that they won't just be let down when something goes wrong -- they'll be disproportionately angry. Criticism is important and vital to the presidency; narrow-minded reactionism is something else altogether. It can already be seen with the GLBTQ groups I mentioned above. They canceled their inaugural parties and view him as a sell out, and he hasn't even actually done anything yet
