Channels are all sewn down now. And I've come to realize that I am going to have to put in some of the small boning pieces in before I can sew the back seams together or anything else, really. So, those will get wetted, dried, and cut later this evening.

 Well, sewing tonight was good. I managed to baste together and sew the channels of one front panel before I got cross-eyed from looking at the sewing lines. While I was sewing, I realized or did a few new (or not so new) things that I thought I would share with you as sewing tips. ( some sewing tips behind the cut... )

More thoughts/tips on sewing that I am learning/remembering.

• Prewash in hot water, &/or steam trim before useing to shrink it.
• Mark guidelines with chalk, or something that will come off, yet be seen while working. Recheck measurements as needed, as things may drift.
• Double check which side of a dual-sided trim you have showing, before you sew it ( Read more... )

Taking a small break from sewing, to write down a few thoughts to remember, more like sewing tips for working on velvet.

• Use a walking foot when sewing on velvet, whenever possible.
• When pinning trim to velvet, use lots of pins, at least an 1" apart, along both sides if it is wide, then machine sew over all pins before removing them. Hand basting  ( Read more... )
