Taking a break...

,,, from my attachment of the jewels and beads, to make the edge of the Tudor kirtle. It looks great, and I will definitely have enough of the ouches to make the complete neckline. Are you sewing the jewels directly on to the kirtle, or to a seperate piece of fabric to be mounted on the kirtle after it's jeweled? I'll be ready to jewel mine in a day or two, and I'm trying to decide which would be easier.

I am sewing it directly to the kirtle edge, where I have already sewn the strip of silk in place. The reason being is that I know that the body has a shape to it, and if I sewed them on flat to a piece of fabric, then it won't lie as well when on the curved body, especially in the booby area where the curves occur more. I also needed the corners of the ouches to fit just right, so one side has an extra pearl to make the distance to the corner ouch.

I also plan on only washing the outfit as needed, airing the kirtle out between uses. So I won't have to remove the jewels too often.

Both ways have their good and bad points. The bad point of my current method means that I have to reassemble the arrangement every time I take them off. But I did notice that the thread holes seem to be pretty minor.
