Why??

There really are times when I want to reach through the laptop screen, and choke the people on the other end.

What's got my dander up this time? SBDieters who want to go from 127 to 117 (They already went from a size 8 to a size 4), and wondering if this is a good idea. ( Read more... )

I am sorry to have hit your buttons. My mom was 5'0" herself, and rarely got over 95 pounds when she was healthy. That's where her body was at naturally, and she was fine there ... until she got sick. I think the highest she ever weighed was 105, during her worst year of depression when her fiance died. Her lowest weight was about 70 pds, when she died from cancer.

The person never gave a height reference, so I don't know how applicable her height to weight is. And why she wants to ask us if she should lose more weight, when we aren't her doctors, is what also got to me. For me, it is that some of us really do need to lose the weight for health reasons, and some use the diet system as just another weight lose means.

"Fat" is in the eye of the beholder, I fear. "Overweight" and "obese" have medical definitions.

Fat?

For the brave.

It really IS all due to body type, honestly. I'm barely five feet tall, and small boned. I looked my absolute best when I weighed 102. I wasn't skinny, I was just little.

I didn't realize you were doing the SB Diet. I've been leaning toward it, as it seems like the most sensible diet I've ever seen--but the whole breakfast thing just throws me off. I'm SO used to a bowl of cereal for breakfast--but I think I'm going to have to break down and deal with eggs for breakfast for a couple of weeks. I've already cut way, way back and bread and potatoes, I think I could probably give them up entirely without too much trouble. It's the cereal and fruit I would miss..

My mom was 5'0" herself. She weighed 95 normally, when she was healthy. I was given no reference to the person's height, just the weight details, so I don't know how healthy that weight would be on the person. On me at 5'6" and at my age, 127 would be the low end of my weight scale. 150, my target goal, is the high end. What annoyed me more is the use of this diet for the usual women dieting reasons, while for me it is a healthy dieting lifestyle. It has to be or I will get diabetes ( ... )

If they're at 127 and wearing a size 4, I think they've hit the 'You're fine, loose more and you're a stick' category.

I'm on the short side of things myself, just barely managing 5'1", but at 127 pounds myself, I'm between an 8 and 10, depending on the cut for most things. If I brought myself back down to 110 where I 'belong', I'd be an easy 4 comfortably.

I rarely listen to the small boned comments, as personally I've found that most people who use that as an explanation are justifying looking anorexic. When they've had to shop for clothing in the teenaged crap they call stylish *as an adult* because nothing else fit.. THEN they can complain about being small boned.

My Mom was small boned, as she wore my old pre-teen clothes or the high end of the children's sizes. Which is why she sewed a lot of her own stuff. She was 5'0" and 95 pds when she was healthy. Someone as small as her I could see being at that weight. But no height was given, so I have nothing to compare it to, other than my own height at 5'6", which is admittedly more on the taller female end. at 127, I would be at the low end of the weight scale, and probably not healthy at that weight now. I vaguely remember being that weight when I was trim, fit, a dancer who walked or biked all over my home town. And I was all of about 13 years old.
