Name(s): Iroh, EVERYONE [Your Ancient Runes professor is lonely and sick!] Location: Iroh's Office Week: 34 Time: All day on the last day of the week Rating: PG , but subject to change for each person
Winry knocked on the door to Iroh's office, before poking her head around the frame. Since talking to him properly the night of the intruder, she had found herself visiting the old man fairly often, if irregularly. She enjoyed talking with him - there was something inexplicably comforting about Iroh's presence and manner of speaking, although it was rare that Winry would admit she might want comforting.
"Professor Iroh?" she called curiously. "Do you mind if I come in?"
Upon seeing young Winry entering the doorway, Iroh called to her, "Yes, please make yourself welcome." He had been sneezing into his handkerchief, but placed it away after sniffling into it out of manners to his visitor.
He seated himself more upright and corrected his stacks, making it seem as if work had been done. "What can I help you with?"
"Are you sure? Winry asked, stepping inside his office properly. He definitely wasn't looking too well. "If you're still really sick, I can come back later?"
She grinned slightly as he messed with his paperwork. That was something he did most of the time she came to visit, and he didn't fool her for a moment. "Nothing, really. I mostly just came to see if you were feeling any better, Professor."
"Oh, this is just a passing cold. Nothing to worry about, Miss Rockbell. I assure you, you are more than likely safe," Iroh said hurriedly, as though to rush in resting any doubts in Winry's mind.
Noticing Winry's grin, Iroh's spirits rose a little. For such a talented student, Winry was also very considerate for the most part. The only time she faltered was in taking care of herself, instead spending much of her energy on development of automail. "I feel a little bit better, especially now that I have company, if even for a short time." Iroh remembered talking to her about her independent work and inquired, "How are your automail projects? I understand that you are working hard on them since speaking with you last, at the impromptu school gathering."
Shalice, having spent most of what seemed like the past forever feeling down in the dumps, managed to rouse herself from her funk long enough to check her journal occasionally. Not that she was hoping there would be a message from Byakuya, or anything. Pompous ass. Even if he'd apologized, he was still a pompous ass
( ... )
Iroh felt the presence of company near his door, as he had good intuition of when people were around dating back to finding spies during his military days. At the same time, he recognized it as a bittersweet presence, which upset him to the point where he furrowed his brow when he heard Shalice's confident yet softened voice.
"Please, Professor, make yourself at home," Iroh signalled toward a chair near his desk. For another time that day, Iroh shuffled some papers around as though he had completed his work. However, his sickness got in his way of getting ahead of his tasks. He also managed to pull of the warm towel on his head while Shalice shut the door behind herself.
"I am glad to see you, Professor. What can I do for you?"
Taking a seat at the chair Iroh had motioned toward, Shalice looked the other professor over. "I came to see if you were doing better," she said. Clearly unconvinced by his paper shuffling, she continued. "It looks like you're not."
And it really did look like he wasn't. Shalice was a hard woman to hide things from, and Iroh, while making an admirable effort to appear healthier than he was, was not very successful.
"Do you need... anything?" she asked. "I've got a wine that can kick the crap out of a cold."
Iroh huffed at Shalice's first words to him. "Please, Professor. I am more than okay. Maybe not better, but I can do well on my own. Thank you for the kindness to visit though. It has been a slow day without any real work to do." He looked into the hearth of the fire that had been heating his water for tea. With a small wave of his hand, the fire grew as the teapot began to whistle. "Is there anything I can get for you to drink?"
The older professor laughed with Shalice's offer of wine. "It's still a little bit early for that. Or, with my age, maybe even a little late. I have only had a real drink so many times since I have come here. I am not sure I can handle these kinds of things anymore." His kindness shone in the pupils of his eyes as he looked toward Shalice. "Thank you, professor. I am only hoping I have the personal oppotunity to 'kick the crap' out of this chill."
Iroh, also deceptively good at reading people, noted Shalice's slightly unusual behavior. "I trust all is well with you?"
Iroh was thinking over things that were in the back of his mind when he noticed a large stack of books floating in his doorway. After seeing a pair of tanned hands holding them, he became aware of Tidus' voice and finally realized who was there. Getting up from his chair, he walked over to grab at least a small stack of the Potions books Tidus held at his hips. "I'm fine myself, but...goodness, Mister Ascalon! You do know you can check out a few of these at a time, yes?" Iroh huffed while chuckling from the girth of the texts
( ... )
Iroh grinned widely at Tidus' educational aspirations for great achievement. He always felt encouraged about his life choice to become a teacher instead of remaining in the military. Though, he always managed to find ways to integrate his previous knowledge into his life at Hogwarts. Everything from noticing team formations in Quidditch to sharing surveillance tips with other teachers made it more apparent that his background stuck around more than it showed. Still, becoming a teacher under the Hufflepuff head Rangiku Matsumoto made his life much brighter than if he had stayed around in the sadness of his military career

Toph had read her journal when Professor Iroh reported that he was sick. She had felt sad and concerned for the jolly old man, so she walked over to his office to talk to him.
Iroh had really been a great professor, even though Toph had never taken his class. It was hard to take a class on ancient runes when you couldn't see said runes. Nevertheless, Toph had had some nice conversations with the old man, and he had made some tasty tea for her too.
Toph knocked on the door before entering. "Professor? Are you busy?" She could feel that he wasn't doing much, but he was sick. He could have been busy doing...sick things.
Iroh smiled when she heard the voice of the one and only Toph Bei Fong. "Ah, there is my wonderful tea partner!" he exclaimed before releasing a deep cough. "Excuse me, I am feeling a little under the weather."
He approached an extra pot of hot water he had for visitors in case his current blend didn't appeal to the tastes of his guests. Instead of giving a cup of licorice tea to the young Gryffindor, he instead made a mix of cocoa and warm cream. "The Bei Fong Special, for the special Bei Fong," he smiled as he began mixing the ingredients, knowing that Toph would recognize what he was making from the rich smell of chocolate.
Regardless of the joy in seeing Toph, he knew that a lot of the times, she often spoke to him out of a need to talk things out. "How are things, Toph?"
Toph immediately smelled the rich chocolate and licked her lips. This guy really knew how to make tea and hot chocolate.
"It's been boring." It really has been. The prank that she had pulled with Harley had been a lot of fun, but things have once again slowed down. "I actually came to see you. The journal said you weren't feeling good."
Professor Iroh was like a father to her, though she probably wouldn't admit it to anyone other than herself. It was natural for her to be concerned if he wasn't well.
Handing her the warm cup of cocoa, Iroh smiled seeing Toph's appetite pique at the rich drink.
"Boring? I hardly think things are ever boring around here. New staff, mystery journal entries, and it seems like I meet people everyday. Of course, you might have a different perspective as a student. I promise, things will get more interesting for you in a matter of years. For now, enjoy the ability to not worry about finances or job applications." He rubbed his hands on her head, avoiding the puffballs at the side. He enjoyed them, and did want to throw them askew. Of course, when he felt the dirtiness in her hair, he pulled back his hand with a small face of disgust and wiped it against a nearby handkerchief.
"Well, Miss Bei Fong, I am indeed a little sick. Although I look not so great, I am actually much better than everyone thinks. I assure you, I am not in any trouble healthwise..." Iroh paused as he noticed Toph's reaction to his illness. "Does it trouble you?"
Edward could hardly believe class was canceled. What was he supposed to do with his time? After all classes were pretty important and filled up much of his day.
Hesitantly he decided to check in on Iroh. He figured if he was off sick it must be really bad. How could someone not want to study?
He had walked from the library and therefore had a nice pile of books in his arms, some of which pertaining to his non-existent class for the day, but that didn't stop him from knocking at the door. It was loud and sounded off because of his right hand. He dropped it quickly to try and catch the stack of books before he lost some of them.
"Um, Professor Iroh?" He called through the door, hoping the man was still alive.
Iroh looked up from his desk and smiled upon seeing Edward Elric again gracing his office with his presence. Of course, seeing another pile of books in his arms was enough to prompt his swift welcoming. "My goodness, are all the students around here burying themselves with book stacks?" He helped ease the load in Edward's hands.
After settling the pile of books on one of the various tables around, he turned back to the student visitor. "So, how can I help you, Mr. Elric?"
"Well, um, nothing really, but I think that, I mean, I was worried, well, not worried but thinking you might be really sick and not able to teach so I thought I'd make sure you were okay."
Iroh laughed a little to himself with a short staccato of a cough. "It is okay, Edward. You are not the only one to come in." He straightened the stack of books he helped bring in. "I apologize if the licorice tea is a little strong, but I can brew something different for you if you plan on being around for a while."
He opened a cabinet featuring many of his sweeter and easier blends. "Any kind you want. Frequent visitors privelage, of course."
