I find it interesting that *you* forgive and move on. Makes me wonder why you need the holiday.

Ok, so I missed one part. You forgive and move on, then for the holiday you ask G-d for forgiveness and to inscribe you into the book of life, ie, you live another year. It's a big complicated holiday with lots of extra stuff, I just discussed one aspect of it.
