Sporty's Olympic report 3 - Canada wins 2nd Gold!

Feb 16, 2010 22:44

Hey there - skipped a day cos I stayed up too late!  All kinds of things happened in the last two days...

Gold medal ceremony for Alexandre Bilodeau... I get teary listening to the National Anthem :)

Mike Robertson just missed getting our second gold in men's snowboard cross, but a great silver isn't anything to sneeze at - Yay Mike! Gold to the American Seth Wescott - the defending champion! And bronze to the Frenchman Tony Ramoin. What an exciting race!

Today was something special again: a GOLD medal in women's snowboard cross!
4 years ago I watched Maelle Ricker crash (eek!) and also watched Lindsey Jacobellis lose the gold due to a youngster's mistake.

I kinda hoped things would go well for both this time around. Unfortunately for Lindsey, she crashed out  early in the semis. To all of Canada's great delight, Maelle jumped out to a lead in the finals and won hands down!

To top it all off, the silver and bronze medal winners, Deborah Anthonioz of France and Olivia Nobs of Switzerland were great and classy as well!  They looked so happy to be on the podium and cheered Maelle as well when she was announced in front of a screaming home crowd. It looked like Olivia was even encouraging the crowd to be louder. How amazing is that! Big cheers out for them - smiles everywhere!

So much what the Olympics are all about!

Big cheers for Germany's lugers, both men's and women's and also their biathletes and cross-country skiers! Lots of medals for Germany!

To top it off (the day for me), Canada's men's hockey team started off the tournament with a great flash of offence, and both the men's and women's curling rinks won their first matches!

This is reporter!smurf signing off so I can watch the figure skating!

Iz in sports heaven...
