His comments on the ongoing narrative and allusions to Spock's internal/external conflict are interesting & promise a nuanced performance. One imagines he'd be a very engaging actor in live theater as well. I know that he was in "Angels in America" last year, not sure what other stage work he's done.
he's theater-trained with a BFA from Carnegie-Mellon, and sits on the board of the The Ojai Playwrights Conference, so he's actually very involved with theater and acting. Sylar wouldn't be as intriguingly messed up if he was played by another actor.
io9 tends to be not that bright on a good day and will sometime go full moron on some of their articles. they once asked him about Jung and Sylar in the same question and he just gave them a :| before giving them a semi-bullshit answer.
I think it will be very interesting to see how they handle the question of Vulcan having experienced a Holocaust and Spock facing the question of whether he should follow his heart or marry in to side with his people (if they'll have him - they may not want human genes mixed into such a limited gene pool).
I read somewhere that JJ is intermarried and it makes me wonder if some of that will turn up in the Spock/Uhura relationship in the next movie.
But I think it's more likely that they will explore the loyalty vs. love idea. After all, even today Jews who marry out sometimes have people accuse them of 'finishing Hitler's work for him'.

Would Spock really seek out more Vulcans, especially since he turned his back on their culture previously?
. . . this interviewer is dumb. I feel like I've read their stuff on the kinkmeme.

Yeah, I know but they might surprise us. I was certainly surprised with Uhura/Spock!
