Hi. My name is Sarah and I’m thrilled missyjack asked to be the vidder this month on Ask the Vidder. If there’s something I enjoy as much as vidding, it’s talking about it. So please ask me questions!

I’ve made just over 30 vids in the SPN fandom and they are listed here if you want to check any of them out ( Read more... )

Other vidders definitely inspire me - more so because I love seeing what can be done.
Right back at ya, hon! I'm constantly amazed at the breadth of your work. From crack to angst to action, you can do it all.

I’ve been working with _sharvie_ (Steph) for about a year and a half now and it’s one of my favourite parts of the vidding process.
Where can I get me one of those ;) Seriously, you two make an awesome team.

Thanks so much hun. You know it was your first Real Audio that showed me "what can be done". In fact Steph recc'd that to me ages ago, before I knew you, because she thought it would be something I'd like. She wasn't wrong. It was one of the first influential vids I saw. So thank you.

Hee! Oh yes. I consider myself very lucky. I sometimes think she can read my brain ..... Actually she answered a post I put on supernatualvids when I was making my first recap vid. And well, the rest is history as they say.

Thanks for popping by. *hugs*

Your vids are super brilliant. I especially enjoyed Where do we Draw the Line and Channel Hopping. I couldn't get that first song out of my head for like two weeks after seeing your vid, LOL. Keep up the great work! I'm excited to see what you come out with in the future. :) ♥ ♥

edited because i suck at grammer. :/

Thank you so much. I'm so glad Where Do We Draw the Line struck a cord - I felt the same way when I first heard the song, I just couldn't get it out of my head and it's a vid I am pretty happy with.

Thanks again.
xx

Oh, I has questions...

Have you abandoned vids? If so, I hope you don't mind me asking the question, why?

On the same sort of topic, if you get stuck with a vid (or maybe you don't), do you put it on one side, work on something else then go back to it later?

Do you work on more than one vid at a time?

I love everything you've said here about working with a beta you trust and how getting an outside viewpoint really helps - so any advice on filtering those points, how you can take on board those things that could make the vid better, but could also change those very parts you liked?

When to post - I think sometimes I've got so sick of making changes that I've posted just to get the thing out of the way - am I ever satisfied? No! *G* How do you deal with that?

Ever tempted to re-edit a posted vid? Maybe not because of doing things better, but just on getting better footage or the perfect clip you really wanted that didn't exist 'till LAST WEEK! *G*

Told you I had questions, sorry...

Hey Ellie! Whee! Questions!

Have you abandoned vids?

Yes. Two. Very early on I made a vid to Beautiful Stranger by Madonna - never posted it because my beta feedback (and I had a couple!) was that it just wasn't working and at the time I didn't know how to fix it. Also - "Stand by Your Man" - same story. I thought the idea would work, but nah! Sucked big time and I wasn't prepared to work any more on it.

if you get stuck with a vid (or maybe you don't), do you put it on one side

Yes. I have one. I would love to make a "genre" study vid and some of it is sitting in my "current vid" folder. It's been there for about six months. I still think about it and I hope one day to go back to it. But I just haven't worked it through in my mind yet. I have to say I usually try and see a vid through.

Do you work on more than one vid at a time? No. I just can't for some reason. The vid I'm working on at the moment has taken forever and I have a new vid in mind, but I can't even think about starting that until this one is posted. I ( ... )

Some wonderful interesting answers in here - all perfect information.

Thank YOU for taking the time to be such a good sport and so willing to be subjected to the inquisition! *G*

Hi Ash, HI! You know how much I love having you as a comrade-in-arms in the Battle of the Clips. Getting to share the process with you (and Steph) makes vidding ten times as fun for me! *enormous thanks for the give-and-take*

So I guess I'm supposed to ask a question... um, what's the next technical hurdle you want to take on? It seems like you've just blasted up the learning curve when it comes to effects, anything new you want to try sometime? (e.g. that last manip you showed me was really coming along.)

♥♥♥

Heya darlin'.

enormous thanks for the give-and-take

Ditto hun! Chatting about a vid before it's posted is so much fun for me. So, you know, THANKS!

what's the next technical hurdle you want to take on?

What?! Those hurdles weren't enough!?? Hee! :D Hmmmm.... you know, my real hurdle is still narrative - I know that's not strictly a "technical" hurdle, but for me really is. In vidding it's the thing I struggle with the most ... I would like to tell a complex, yet clear story.

Strictly "technical"? - colouring. It's not an area I work with alot (well, there's B&W!) but I see vidders use colouring so beautifully and subtly it's something I'd like to explore further.

I'd like to revisit AU (gulp) and manips again so I can improve on that, but I probably need to take a "break" after the one that's coming....

Whee! Thanks for popping by hun.
*hugs*

Hullo! I have a couple of questions.

What made you decide that you wanted to vid? Did you see some vids and think yeah, I want to do that?

And have there been other fandoms you've vidded for or are there any that you would like to try?

Heya!

What made you decide that you wanted to vid?

There were 2 vids I remember that made me see the potential of vidding. I never even knew fanvids existed, but I stumbled into LJ and watched a vid called "Breathe" and one called "Wild" (and I should find the links really...) and to this day those songs will always make me think of My Show. I then started to watch vids and was inspired by what people were doing. How they could tell a story, or make me laugh and I started to listen to songs and picture them as a vid. Once that happened, I just had to see if I could do it myself.

And have there been other fandoms you've vidded for or are there any that you would like to try?I haven't vidded in any other fandoms. I just don't feel as "passionate" about any other shows or even movies to make me want to vid to it. Though I adore "Fast and The Furious" (is there a fandom for that? - there must be!!) and with a new movie coming out? Who knows ( ... )

I'm pretty sure there is a small fandom, largely based on the overwhelming homoerotic subtext of the first movie. ;)
