"Luke!" Guy gasped, hurriedly trying to catch Luke and ease him down to the floor more gently. His lips pursed, and he brushed a hand against his friend's forehead. "... You're burning up really badly. How long have you been sick? ... Is this from...?"

He couldn't quite bring himself to say it. He'd never seen long-term effects to the Razing Phoenix arte, as all the enemies he had faced with it had perished, whether by his hand or a comrade's. Could it make a person sick? Or was it something else entirely?

I hope it is...

"I've only been sick for about two days. I don't think it has anything to do with what happened between us... there are other people who are sick, just like me." With a relieved sound, Luke pushed himself to his feet and stumbled over to his bed. He was beginning to feel a little light headed from the fever, and his skin and lungs felt raw.

"Don't worry, I'm okay..." He gave Guy the best reassuring smile he could manage at the moment. Seeing the other was probably the best thing he could ask for at the moment.

"You idiot," Guy muttered halfheartedly, helping Luke back over to the bed. "You don't look okay. Don't get up again, alright? I don't want you to hurt yourself on my account." He saw how pale Luke was and urged him to lie back, lifting the covers to spread them over his friend again. Years of doing just that for both Asch and Luke had made it habitual more than anything, but this time, he was mostly just worried for Luke's health. He certainly didn't want him to get worse.

"There must be a bug going around, then," he murmured, hoping to distract Luke from his own illness a little. His expression shifted to one of distaste. "Probably the church again."

Did they have to interfere with everything? He was seriously wondering what he'd gotten himself into. A food supply and lasting health wasn't a worthwhile trade for what he'd been forced to do.

I doubt that's the end of it, too... I have to find a way to get to them first.

"Hey... not an idiot," Luke said softly, knowing that Guy didn't actually mean it. Flopping his head back onto his pillow, he shut his eyes for a moment and let Guy pull the covers around him like he used to when he was little. He took a few slow, even breaths to make sure he wouldn't start coughing again, and then reached up to gently scratch at his cheek. After a second he realized he was scratching again, and quickly pulled his hand away.

With the mention of the church, Luke's eyes darkened and he turned his head to look at Guy, "Them. Who are they, Guy? What do they want? And why are they doing all of this to us?" He clenched his hand into a fist, "All I know is that I want to stop them."

Guy's brows furrowed, and he leaned back on his heels, hand lifting to rub at his forehead. "I wish I could tell you. I know I spent a few days in the church, but now that I look back on it, my memories of that time are so fuzzy. Did I lose those memories when their influence on me disappeared? I remember talking to people, but I don't recall their faces or half of what they said. Come to think of it, I don't remember most of what I said to them, either ( ... )
