Sci-Fi Friday!

Sometimes I look through old journal entries and see these great lines and wonder if it's okay to steal them for actual stories or books later. They deserve to be seen by a larger audience! For instance, my last post contained the following line, re: my car:
It gets me from point A to point B, but not point C, which is where the chicks are.
I ( Read more... )

I didn't find the concept of Dollhouse to be squicky in the least and I have been a longtime Buffy/Angel/Firefly. I've seen tons of shows, Alias, Burn Notice, Chuck etc where people pretend to be others. This is just a logical extreme of that. It was odd that Echo was hired to help recover a girl in a kidnapping, when I sort of expected her to simply be hired to fulfill someone's fantasy.

Also watching BSG maybe has hardened me to seeing folks minds messed with on a weekly basis, Cylon and human.

And I hope Dollhouse doesn't get cancelled, we finally get a JOSS WHEDEON created tv show and I want it to be given a fighting chance.

I have no problem with people pretending to be other people. Hell, I watched The Pretender. But they're all only playing parts, not sacrificing their identities.

I'm actually relieved to hear this. I thought I was the only person who ever watched this show. Someday, I need to get it on DVD.

I definitely see what you mean about Dollhouse. I've only seen the opening bit so far, but I was already pretty unsure about the premise just from seeing that. I hope it gets better, and I'll watch it regardless, but in the meantime, I'm going to console myself with introducing Cynda to Seasons 4 and 5 of Buffy.

Is there really anything to wonder there? I mean.

Haven't watched Dollhouse yet - that's for tomorrow.

T:SCC I loved. <3. Sooo much dialog-goodness - not a wasted word, not a spare gesture, it's like really good Hemingway in my mind's ears. Just spot-on - even the momentary shot of the bloody pillow as they leave the hotel room was perfect. It makes me happy that such smart smart people are writing and performing television. *gushes*

I realize it may not be on forever, but I gotta take my pleasures while they're here.

I am pretty great, i agree!

KYYYYYYYYLE.

Weaver killing the shit out of everybody was pretty awesomely terrifying. I suppose it's a holdover from watching T2 in my youth that T-1000s still kind of scare the crap out of me. Too many shiny pointy slicy things. D:

I hadn't been too excited about Dollhouse, and actually seeing the show didn't increase my enthusiasm any. The problematic how-are-we-supposed-to-connect-with-Echo issue doesn't really help. Pretty much all i got out of the whole thing was being really excited about seeing Helo half-naked and kicking ass. :O And maybe wanting to know why Amy Acker has scarface. I spent the first scene imagining that pre-Dollhouse Echo (Catherine? was that her name?) was Faith. It works!

It does seem lacking in humor, though, for a Joss show.Yeah, that. Also too procedural? And i hate hate hate procedurals. D: Also the Dollhouse reminded me a little of Wolfram and Hart. I keep thinking of it in terms of previous Joss shows, which i probably shouldn't do. It's just too easy to fall into the ( ... )
