Thanks to a heads-up from bbuttercup, I was pointed to a thread discussing a fanfic "author", jdr1184, who apparently likes other peoples' stories so much, she uses ( Read more... )

Have you reported her to stop_plagiarism? Sounds like it's ripe for that.

And when I had one of my stories stolen (the whole story! Not even a period changed!), I was both pissed off and flattered. It's a weird feeling.

I believe she has been reported, because she stole from rageprufrock and toomuchplor.

o_O Geez, if someone's going to steal, you'd think they would at least try to throw in a word or two of their own! Of course, these are probably the same people who buy term papers off the internet, and turn them in as their own without the slightest qualm. *facepalm*

Wow. Should I feel slighted, because nobody's ever plagiarized me? ;)

I really need a Middleman icon with his 'there's no negotiating with plagiarists!' quote.

I can't believe she stole from me! It does feel a bit like a milestone though. LOL

LOL! You should feel very proud!! I'm quite envious! Mind you, if someone did/has plagiarized me then I'd never know as I barely recognize half of my own stories as being written by ME!

See, this is the thing. If friendshipper hadn't googled lines from the story (and I can't believe my crap is goggleable), I might not have even recognized it had I read it. If it had pinged, I probably would have thought someone else wrote it! LOL

Cheaters are with us forever, I fear. And what gets me is their unrepentent chutzpah when they get caught!

I really don't understand the mentality that takes pleasure in receiving praise for other people's work.

Guess you're a BNF now, huh? :) It is a wierd kind of flattery, utterly unethical and childish, but a wierd kind of flattery none the less.

That's something, huh? I've had weird serendipity happen where I had written a story, and discovered to my horror after I posted it, that there were whole phrases that appeared in someone's else's fic that had recently posted but that I hadn't read yet that also appeared in mine. In my case, the phrases were fairly common, but I was still embarrassed, and offered an explanation and apology to the other writer; who was very gracious, by the way.

However, that passage she used was obviously not just a common phrase, but my words verbatim. At least I'm in good company because she swiped from pru and toomuchplor, too.

When I first started posting Reassembling there was someone else who had begun posting a post s5 story where Anya had died as well. I immediately assured them I hadn't meant to step on their toes and offered to cease posting. They were also entirely gracious and told me there was more than enough room for multiple stories with that premise but I was still embarassed that I hadn't done something completely unique.
