[no longer flocked]

Ten to one she just deletes the fic, but you never know.

Bad vampire fic made only slightly more bearable by the author plajerizing [sic] authors who are much better than she is.

ETA: I was wrong, looks like she's going to play the innocent denial card here.

ETA 2: almostnever has put up a handy comparison chart here. It's much nicer ( Read more... )

Poking through her fic and googling the cute/funny/clever bits netted another chunk of text that's appropriated from somewhere else. From http://jdr1184.livejournal.com/48157.html:

"Rodney McKay had no charm with which to charm anyone, anywhere, anytime. He was sans charm. He was a charm free zone."

... is lifted from the first paragraph of this story.

Intersting. I tried google, great idea. Unfortunately, I'm having google fail, but I swear I recognize some of the funny lines from the one I linked. "If you wanted to have boring missionary sex, you should have stayed married" is an example...

*nods* Google is my go-to when I suspect plagiarism; though it's hit or miss because a lot of fic isn't Google-able since people often choose to have their journals or websites set not to allow search engine indexing.

And I agree with you that the one you linked to totally sounds like John and Rodney's voices -- I don't know whose story it is, but I'll be completely unsurprised if someone turns up a link.

What in the world makes people think they can get away with this idiocy? I can see having it happen on a line or two by accident, because the more time you spend in a fandom, the more you start to accrete all the fic that you've read on a subconscious level; I get really suspicious when a funny line or particularly clever phrase just pops into my head, because odds are it's been dredged up by my subconscious from something else I've read. But this is just STUPID. Wouldn't it actually be easier to write your own stuff than to go around incorporating paragraphs from other stories into your own?

Yeah. I tried a couple of the things that really popped at me, but didn't pull up anything. But it's driving me *insane*, because I'm really sure I read those lines in a fic ( ... )

oh ugh, that's horrible. Sorry you had to go through that.

It *is* sad. I really don't understand it.

In the scheme of things, not that bad, but it did feel worse than I would have thought it would? The pieces lifted were from a huge fic that I poured my heart and soul and labor into.

The thing that was amazing to me, though, was how it went undetected by so many, when the 'stories' were so disjointed, and the fandom was so small.

I have a sad confession to make...sometimes I have cause to read my own stories and I don't recall even writing them! People could plagiarize me (not that they would!) and I'd probably read the story and think...hey, I liked that...and never realize I'd originally written it *sigh*

I am full of fail.

Wow, my very first case of plagiarism that I know of. I left her a little comment. I don't know whether to be flattered or pissed. LOL
