I love the farmer too! He is joy! And oh god the Mandy thing SERIOUSLY DOES NOT WORK as a Danny-fancies-her thing at ALL, even WITH the porn music, and she swishes and ignores them both and it is really very beautiful. :D And I so want to see Brett's sketchbook because I am sure you are right and it is full of cute drawings of Danny or maybe even some of the both of them, like, just sitting in a field together. ♥ ♥ ♥!

Now to me, it does look like Danny finds Mandy attractive, although in a very Brett-focused way -- like "Heeeey, you had sex? That's great! I love it when you do that! Can I hear details? Can I sleep with her too? Can I watch you two together? How about a threesome? OMG JUST DO ME." Then they do this same exact skit again in Someone Waiting with a different woman ("Magda, my valet") and she even kisses Brett on the mouth and he... still looks gay, actually.

(Sometimes I get the impression that they only did the threesome thing pretty early on, and then after that Brett refused, and Danny doesn't really understand why and is always trying to get Brett to try it again.)

I love that your first paragraph is totally a very viable alternative interpretation. :D You should write that! Cause oh, Brett, he would have to go along with the threesome thing even though he didn't want to, just for his honour and reputation, and Danny really WOULDN'T get why he wouldn't want to after, and oh BAAAAABIES.

And you are right that Brett just looks plain old gay where Danny does at least occasionally show believable interest in women. Like, even the girls who are supposed to be primarily paired with Brett, Danny is more believable with them. *g*

I know, seriously! I feel bad now about lurking at persuaders71 for so long without responding to posts, but it seemed so quiet over there and I felt funny, you know? But then the chance to rec for crack_van came up and I had to go for it, and now I'm just SO EXCITED. HEH. Yeah, I remember thinking that bit was kind of surreal, even in a show that doesn't exactly break its back trying to be realistic.

Brett apparently knows random dudes who live on park benches.

I think this ties in to his political work -- arranging peace conferences and whatever other stuff he does when he's not being a wastrel. It is a bit random, though, isn't it! But I like that sense that the local guy Knows People. I'm sure that if they were in New York, Danny would Know People.

Brett just RANDOMLY doing a sketch of Danny. Not even with Danny in the ROOM, either - just, I dunno, because he felt like attempting an artistic rendering of his best friend's face. Even though he doesn't appear to have any other real artistic urges at all.YES! There's just -- my god, no earthly reason for this. I always imagine he's doodling "Mr. Lord Sinclair-Wilde. It turns out he's learned how to hold a teacup from Brett (although not, aparently, how to tell the difference between tea and coffe...)

Brett (from the kitchen): "Thats's no coffee, that's dishwashing water!"

And oh god I love the fawning over Brett's Peer Of The Realm gear. It's just so much one of those things where Danny is mocking with love, and because if he actually said what he seriously thought then it would be embarassing. ♥!

What I love about that scene is that Danny's seeing himself as the ordinary guy, the guy who *wouldn't* get beat up walking through the Bronx, and Brett as the foofy questionable one. I can believe that's how Danny views things, but by the end of the series, Brett's so staid and Danny's prancing around swishing his tail in those high heels and tight clothes! It's just funny. Oh, and I love how Brett is at first going "Ignore, ignore the mocking with dignity" and then almost immediately ends up being genuinely flattered. AWW BRETT.
