Someone had JUST pocketed 500$ from a mission recently so Shalnark had decided that he could afford to spend a little on necessary winter wear for the season (despite the things that he happened to find in the Mall of America). However, he couldn't help but notice the girl who looked absolutely confused.

THIS LOOKED LIKE AN OPPORTUNITY FOR FUN.

"Good Afternoon, miss."

Unfortunately for Jeanne she was exactly the trusting sort of person who should stay away from people like Shalnark. Even more unfortunately was that she always thought the best of people, especially strangers who looked like they knew what they were doing. Maybe she should ask for help? Or would that be rude?

"Ah, good afternoon. I am not in your way, am I?"

Unfortunate for Jeanne, she was just the trusting sort of person that Shalnark could use in case he needed a "friend" to help him out with certain situations. Even more unfortunately for her was that he was definitely not the best of people, especially since he knew what he was going to do. But he's really a nice guy if you get to ... know him... ! Really!

"Nah, I'm alright. Your facial expression seems to say that something is bothering you, however. Are you alright?"

"There is nothing to worry about, thank you. It's just..." Jeanne turns to eye one of the displays again, looking ridiculously uncertain. Rude or not, she really needed the help.

"It seems that I underestimated how much things would change over the years."

At the very least, Jeanne was certainly not the only mediaeval personage who had been completely baffled by... well, anything Christmas-related. Everything seemed a far cry from the Advent that Saber was accustomed to so long ago. Would there even be the three Masses on Christmas Day itself?

It was almost a relief to see someone every bit as lost as she was, though Saber immediately rebuked herself sharply for it. It was hardly a proper line of thought for a knight, particularly with regard to a fellow knight.

At least she should greet her fellow Watch member properly. "Good afternoon, my lady."

"And to you." Jeanne bobbed her head in greeting, incredibly thankful to see a familiar face in this sea of confusion. Although it was likely a bad idea to request they form some kind of baffled raiding party, speaking with someone she knew alleviated a tiny piece of her unease.

"Are you hear for the holiday things as well?"

ROFL @ 'baffled raiding party'. That would be *exactly* what it would be everdistant October 1 2011, 04:56:21 UTC
A slightly embarrassed expression managed to slip past her usual defences, and Saber rubbed the back of her neck as if to dispel the unwelcome feeling.

"Ah... as a matter of fact, yes. I was informed that I should hurry and purchase gifts for those close to me. I must admit a good deal of confusion on this matter."

It seemed that Saber was in a similar situation to her own, which made her expression brighten despite herself. At least she wasn't the only one having difficulty grappling with all this new age confusion.

"I feel the same way. I had thought to come and get some things for the church and my friends, but it seems that quite a lot more has changed than I anticipated."

He wasn't entirely convinced it was safe to leave his apartment yet, but food supplies were low and he was fairly certain he would soon enough go mad simply from being cooped up. With that, it was wonderful to see a friendly face there in the mall rather than God-knows-what jumping out to attack him. (Hopefully he didn't seem too eager when he rushed to greet her.)

"Jeanne, what a pleasant surprise."

"Good afternoon!" Jeanne was certainly happy to see someone she knew, since at this point she had completely forgone the gifting idea in favor of just getting out of here alive. The mall was a bad idea, she definitely shouldn't have tried to go in here without a huge group. Even if she didn't know a huge group of people.

"What brings you here today?"

"Shopping, of course... and getting some fresh air." When he said it out loud, it sounded foolish. Of course Jeanne would be fine, but his own priorities seemed a bit out of line. "I trust you've come for the same things? We may want to stay together, in that case."

"Yes, I think that would be a wonderful idea. I'd forgotten just how busy this place can become." In here defense it had been some time since she last set foot in the mall, and the first time it was on her own. Even if it was a bit silly, the idea of walking with someone made her feel much better.

what is contemporary maashiro October 3 2011, 15:28:22 UTC
Kenshin had made the wrong decision in trying a new place for grocery shopping. He was simply very, very lost and very, very out of place-he might have adjusted a little bit better to the modern times in Death City, but he didn't understand any of these decorations. Or many of the things sold in stores. Where was the food? He had been certain he'd gone to the right place but this didn't seem like anything useful at all...

But an expression mirroring his own very bewildered one was not hard to miss in the crowd (Kenshin already stood out by default of his hair, clothes, and sword, but he always had, so he paid it no notice). It was for that reason he stopped by Jeanne in front of one of those strange displays, breaking the confused muttering under his breath to ask, "Oro, none of this is food, is it...?"

"I - I don't think so." Normally her reply would have been more confident, since she did know what goods the mall offered, but everything was so upended from the holiday rush that she couldn't be sure even of that anymore. What if some of this was food and she just didn't know?

"I believe that it is mostly holiday items at the moment."

"Holiday items." Kenshin placed his hands on his hips and leaned back for a better view. After a few more moments of trying to figure things out, he finally gave up with a last "Oro" and glanced again at Jeanne.

"This one has never celebrated 'Christmas'. Perhaps that is why I don't understand any of this."

"I have celebrated Christmas before, but that was in the long past. It seems that things have changed greatly in the time between now and then." She gave Kenshin a rueful little smile. Turns out a couple centuries made a bigger difference than she'd anticipated.
