He wasn't entirely convinced it was safe to leave his apartment yet, but food supplies were low and he was fairly certain he would soon enough go mad simply from being cooped up. With that, it was wonderful to see a friendly face there in the mall rather than God-knows-what jumping out to attack him. (Hopefully he didn't seem too eager when he rushed to greet her.)

"Jeanne, what a pleasant surprise."

"Good afternoon!" Jeanne was certainly happy to see someone she knew, since at this point she had completely forgone the gifting idea in favor of just getting out of here alive. The mall was a bad idea, she definitely shouldn't have tried to go in here without a huge group. Even if she didn't know a huge group of people.

"What brings you here today?"

"Shopping, of course... and getting some fresh air." When he said it out loud, it sounded foolish. Of course Jeanne would be fine, but his own priorities seemed a bit out of line. "I trust you've come for the same things? We may want to stay together, in that case."

"Yes, I think that would be a wonderful idea. I'd forgotten just how busy this place can become." In here defense it had been some time since she last set foot in the mall, and the first time it was on her own. Even if it was a bit silly, the idea of walking with someone made her feel much better.

"Excellent. It seems to me that the crowds have more to do with the season than anything else, though that doesn't stop them from being rather irritating." That was a familiar idea even to him; Christmas shopping was apparently a timeless activity. "What do you need to get, specifically?"

"I thought that some decorations for the church would be nice, and perhaps some gifts for friends if I have the time." She's a bit more hesitant on the last part, as Jeanne really has no idea what would be appropriate or wanted by most of the people she knew.

"As yes, I thought so." He wasn't about to ask if he was among those friends, but very much hoped so (although Jeanne seemed like she'd give dull, practical gifts). "'Tis the season. You must not be used to all of the options here."

"Not at all. I had only celebrated on a large scale once, with the King. Even then, there was not such a huge amount of personal choices to be made." Jeanne wasn't quite sure if she preferred it that way or not, given the choice between the pageantry of a royal holiday and the selection of this mall.

"Having as many choices as possible seems to be to be the thing to do these days," he said, although Jeanne had probably realized that by now. "I don't mind it, there are quite a few things I wish I could take home with me -- the haircare aisle, for instance."

"Oh, I can imagine! I do not think I wish for anything for myself, but I would like to show the people at home some of the things here, like the appliances."

Presumably, Jeanne was just being humble -- certainly there's something she'd bring back, given the opportunity -- but it seemed rude to push the issue. "I wonder if you could," he said instead, "oh, but would that change history completely. I wonder..."

"Oh, you're right. That would cause more trouble than it's worth, wouldn't it?" Although obviously it was a horrible thing to do, she couldn't help but wonder if maybe things would have been easier if she'd had access to some of the technology here. No matter - she hadn't, and things turned out as well as they could.

"I really couldn't say for sure, I've never tried it!" He was tempted to find someone more knowledgeable to ask, but Shibusen was maintaining it's position out of Jules' favour. "Either way, it's best not to dwell. We've shopping to do, after all."

"No, you're right. I think that this should occupy us well enough without having to think on it." At the very least it would keep her mind dizzy enough. She would ask someone else about bringing things back another time, when she wasn't so busy with culture shock.

"Are you on your way toward-- ah, but perhaps you want your gifts to be surprises. If that's the case, I'm sorry." Implying that one of them ought to be for him? Perhaps.

"There are a few that I think I would like to keep secret for the time being. A good surprise is very nice, I think." Not quite an answer, but she was smiling a little teasingly.
