This sucked.

Sprained wrist, badly bruised arm, all sorts of other bruises, and what felt like hundreds of little cuts and scrapes was apparently enough to land Toph in the clinic. She hated clinics. Where was Katara and her awesome healing Waterbending when you needed her?

At least the clinic was big and roomy, not like the infirmaries back home; granted, the ones back home smelled like a place of healing. This place smelled almost...science-y. It was too clean.

Rest was not a word Winry was very familiar with these past couple months. With then exception of that one day upon her arrival back to the present it seemed that most of the time she was working--but in all honesty, this actually did more help than harm for her. Work was a good distraction, work invigorated her and made her feel like she was doing something important.

It kept the feelings of fear and uselessness from overwhelming her.

She went over to where Toph was, some supplies tucked under her arm. "Here to check you up and dress your wounds." she said, tone businesslike.

"Are you a Weapon or Meister?" It was a question she asked of everyone. If this girl was a Weapon she'd be out of here pretty quickly.

"Meister," Toph replied, turning her head in the general direction of Winry's voice. "What's that funny chemical smell?"

Meister, seemed like her ability wouldn't work on her then. Oh well, they do things the old fashioned way then. Winry pulled up a seat next to Toph's bed and put her supplies on the side table.

"Disinfectant. One of the injured they brought in bleed all over the floor of this room." Well, several had actually. Honestly Winry couldn't really be overly bothered by it. Especially with the battles she had experienced this one didn't seem all that severe, and in her line of work you kind of got use to being surrounded by and covered in other people's blood.

"Toph was it? Where do your injuries feel the worst?"

A day had already passed ever since the rescue from Michigan, but somehow a part of him still refused to believe that this was true. That he was really back in Shibusen and in Death City, even though he told himself that this was reality and not some hallucination of his fractured mind. His time in Michigan had not been kind at all - he had grown visibly thinner, and it was only the hospital clothes that hid the multitude of bruises and injuries that dotted all over his body. The only real visible bruise was the one that marred his cheek and jaw, but it was already half-healed ( ... )

It had been over a year since she had been in any kind of hospital..and that time was when her mother had died. Tohru felt nervous and awkward standing in the lobby even though it appeared cozy and a place to relax. She quietly stepped further, cradling a basket in her arms as she glanced around. Hopefully she wouldn't get in trouble for bringing little treats for the kidnapped victims. Tohru knew it might not heal them completely or make them feel any better because what they went through was something she, herself could not imagine living with for the rest of her life. But- that was why she overcame her nerves and now stood in the clinic ( ... )

With all the rest he was getting, Phoenix was somewhat better than when he had first returned from Michigan. A fair bit of colour had returned to his skin already, and the bruise on his face had healed up a bit more - a few more days, and hopefully it'd be gone completely. But still even then, there would be all the other injuries that would need more time to heal up ( ... )

Tohru fidgets with her hands, staring down at the floor until he finally replied. She looked up, a light blush on her cheeks and she slowly smiles brightly. She ignore his wounds, trying not to stare because she knows its rude and feels guilty enough for just appearing here and disturbing his sleep.

"No no..its fine! Sweet tend to last a bit longer than riceballs or something so..its why I chose to bring that. Please enjoy it when you can," She squeaked cutely.

He felt like he'd been sleeping for months, and in truth, with as frequently as Naruto had been slipping in and out of consciousness since the rescue mission- he'd lost all concept of time. A few things were constant- the absence of the prison, the tentative relief, concern for the others, the incessant throbbing in his head. But then others, others were a complete blank, and maybe that too was fortunate ( ... )

Winry was particular concerned about Naruto. He hadn't awoken yet which made her fret about if he would. Who knew just what was entailed in the experimentation these people had undergone. The others seemed to be recovering (physically that is) but in a case like this it's be a bad move to assume that all the cases were the same.

She'd check in on him in between other patients, hoping for him to wake up at any moment but so far she had been luckless.

After she felt that most everyone else was either cared for, or being tended to by one of the other employees she pulled up a seat next to his bedside. It'd be a moment of rest for her in the chaotic past week, and she could take this time to watch him for any signs of wakefulness.

The movement, however slight caught Winry's attention and she sat up a little straighter, watching him for anymore signs of consciousness. It wasn't much, but it was more than she had seen since he'd been brought here and it brought her a great sense of relief. The mechanic remained where she was, not wanting to force him into wakefulness.

She scooted her chair a little closer to his bedside, leaning over a bit to watch him more closely, brow furrowed in worry. A part of her told her she was being too fussy, but they had lost one person--Rin. Rin was someone she didn't even know, and she had died before the mission had even begun, or perhaps during it, but it was still a heavy burden on her heart and she didn't want to lose anyone else.

She looked on for a moment more before in a very soft voice, barely above a whisper she tried out his name. "Naruto?"

Sasuke hadn't felt this tired since he'd pushed his Chidori too hard back home, since his brother had kicked his ass and left him in the hospital. He had a throbbing headache behind his eyes, in his temples, but he was almost too exhausted even to think of complaining about it. The mission thankfully hadn't been a bust, save for the one victim they hadn't been able to get back- a girl Sasuke hadn't really known well- but it hadn't been easy ( ... )

Saralegui had never needed to stop in at the hospital for the sake of his own health before. Even after the fight against Adachi, he'd only gone to the clinic to make Kanon go. And even if it was just a short treatment, some bandages for various scrapes and scratches and wrappings for his hand, he was a bit disappointed. He couldn't really harass Sasuke over always getting hurt if he'd gotten injured as well.

But at least it was a legitimate excuse for him to already be there, he decided as he brushed aside the curtain around his weapon's bed and ducking. Eyes drawn to the red stains on the bandages over his eyes, the king frowned, an odd pang of guilt hitting him. He hadn't even done anything to cause it, after all. He thought. But then again, last time this had happened, wasn't it because their resonation was messed up ( ... )

Regardless of the noise Saralegui made, Sasuke had known he was coming before he'd even reached for the curtain. He'd been getting lazy in his training, he'd realized, stuck on the idea that without his jutsu he couldn't do anything- but he was still a ninja. How young had he been when they'd worked on sensory deprivation before? On his left, he closed the communicator he'd had open, and was still when the meister touched his arm. He turned his face blindly towards the king ( ... )

Sasuke sounded tired, and Sara didn't really blame him. That new ability had left him pretty drained as well. They'd had a bit of time to rest at the camp before returning, so at least he was functioning, but with blood loss and temporary blindness on top of that it was probably worse for his weapon.

"It's still there," he said, frowning and pulling his hand away to idly fuss with his own bandages. "It just feels raw, I suppose. The skin feels like it's half burned off..." Trailing off, he glanced to Sasuke's hands. "That was something you could do back home, correct? What hand did you use?"

Details of the past few hours were still fuzzy in the redhead's mind. But she knew the important thing, which stuck like a permanently easing thought within her: they had been rescued. Everyone was surely recovering and being taken care of and... yes, everything would be fine.

She owed a lot to Germany, Prussia, and Fakir. As it was, she felt bad that she had all but passed out on them when they came for her. She needed to thank them properly and find out how everyone else was doing and--!

Where was she now, even...? Back in the Heights?

Slowly, her eyes blinked open into the light, taking her surroundings in little by little. This was... the clinic? Carefully, she tried to sit up a bit, but found quickly that her limbs weren't responding so well, and flopped back down onto the bed with a soft "oof". She felt kind of dizzy and lightheaded.

Maybe moving wasn't such a good idea just yet...

Fakir had been quick to snatch Ahiru up into his arms and carry her out after they'd found her. There had been a lot of running after that, but they'd made it out relatively unscathed, and now they were back in Death City.

For the first time in weeks, Fakir felt like he could breathe.

He'd been telling himself constantly, like a silent mantra, that Ahiru would be found alive. It had been what kept him going.

And he had been right. Here she was among them again, hurt but bandaged and safe now. He'd waited just long enough for the people at the clinic to take care of her injuries, and then he had been at her side again, though she wasn't conscious enough to notice him.

He was sitting next to her bed now, on a chair he'd stolen from the entrance room, leaning forward with his elbows resting on his knees, watching her.

When she started to wake up, he stiffened, watching even more closely. How much pain was she in?

Seeing her fall back after trying to sit up, he exhaled slowly. "Idiot," he said softly. "Don't strain yourself."

He had been so quiet and unmoving that she had failed to even notice his silent presence at first. But when he spoke, that quickly changed, and her head instantly turned in his direction.

Even as much as she disliked when he called her an idiot or a moron, Ahiru couldn't have been more happy to hear his voice than she was now. Her body was sore and her face felt hot, but none of that mattered when Fakir was right there beside her.

Struggling, she formed a weak smile on her lips. "Fakir..." she breathed his name out softly. As much as he would probably be against it, she really wanted to... hug him right now. But fortunately for him and his personal space, she didn't think she could move that far.

Not yet, anyway.

Her eyes roved over him for any sign of injury. She didn't know what happened to the three of them after they came for her. Hopefully none of them got hurt...

"...Are you okay? And--and Mister Germany? And Prussia?"

It was just like Ahiru to worry about others even from a hospital bed. Fakir reached over to ruffle her bangs, answering with mild admonishment, "Don't worry yourself, moron. We're all fine."

Well, Ahiru wasn't fine. But she was alive and awake and talking to him, and she would get better. That would have to be enough.
