October 2 onwards! [OPEN, Action/Prose is fine] thirteenthace December 15 2010, 19:39:56 UTC
A day had already passed ever since the rescue from Michigan, but somehow a part of him still refused to believe that this was true. That he was really back in Shibusen and in Death City, even though he told himself that this was reality and not some hallucination of his fractured mind. His time in Michigan had not been kind at all - he had grown visibly thinner, and it was only the hospital clothes that hid the multitude of bruises and injuries that dotted all over his body. The only real visible bruise was the one that marred his cheek and jaw, but it was already half-healed ( ... )

It had been over a year since she had been in any kind of hospital..and that time was when her mother had died. Tohru felt nervous and awkward standing in the lobby even though it appeared cozy and a place to relax. She quietly stepped further, cradling a basket in her arms as she glanced around. Hopefully she wouldn't get in trouble for bringing little treats for the kidnapped victims. Tohru knew it might not heal them completely or make them feel any better because what they went through was something she, herself could not imagine living with for the rest of her life. But- that was why she overcame her nerves and now stood in the clinic ( ... )

With all the rest he was getting, Phoenix was somewhat better than when he had first returned from Michigan. A fair bit of colour had returned to his skin already, and the bruise on his face had healed up a bit more - a few more days, and hopefully it'd be gone completely. But still even then, there would be all the other injuries that would need more time to heal up ( ... )

Tohru fidgets with her hands, staring down at the floor until he finally replied. She looked up, a light blush on her cheeks and she slowly smiles brightly. She ignore his wounds, trying not to stare because she knows its rude and feels guilty enough for just appearing here and disturbing his sleep.

"No no..its fine! Sweet tend to last a bit longer than riceballs or something so..its why I chose to bring that. Please enjoy it when you can," She squeaked cutely.

The man only nodded back in turn, still smiling as he moved to place the cookies on his bedside table - he couldn't eat them now just yet, but once his stomach was better...

"I'll do that once the fine doctor says I can eat them, thank you." he returned kindly. "It must have taken a lot of effort though to make something like this for a stranger like me." So many kind people in Death City indeed... and they all didn't deserve what he had the rest went through at the hands of the witches. If somehow, he could prevent that from happening once more...

"How wonderful! Please take your time to recover though, I can always make more!" She replied and stepped a little closer in earnest," I enjoy baking."

At the mention of being a stranger, Tohru looked startled as she raised her hands to her cheeks and gasped. How rude of her! Her mother raised her better than that--oh gosh she was such a ditz- What would Kyou-kun and Sohma-kun say if they saw her like this? The thoughts and more swirled in her head and her eyes rolled comically as a blush stained her cheeks again. She bowed once and meekly looked up to him.

"Stranger? Oh no how rude of me for not properly introducing myself first! I-I'm Hon--um..Tohru Honda. It's a pleasure to meet you!" Tohru introduced herself finally.

Phoenix laughed at the way the girl (Tohru, was it?) reacted, only all too amused at her honest words and actions - he didn't get to see people like her that all often nowadays, Trucy and Vera aside. It was refreshing, in a way... and made him think of Maya for a moment, just a little. Those were the days indeed.

Keeping his smile, Phoenix inclined his head politely as he returned the greeting. "Tohru, then. A pleasure to meet your acquaintance."

Her lips curved into a happy smile as she clasped her hands and bowed again," T-Thank you very much. I know it is more common as a boys name but my parents thought it suited me!"

She stood up straight and her mind went blank on what to ask him. D-Did he introduce himself? Or Should she ask? But it might sound rude and Tohru didn't want to offend him or anything! Tohru shyly pulled a chair next to his bed, her hands fidgeting in her lap.

"u-um..where are you from?" She asked.

Well Phoenix didn't know all that much about Japan, so he simply took Tohru's word for it as it was and smiled nevertheless. "Its a nice name anyway."

At her next question, the man blinked at it for a moment, trying to properly understand what she was asking before he replied after a chuckle. "You mean the world where I come from? California, Los Angeles; the United States. I'm terribly American for the most part."

Tohru looked dazzled at the fact he was from America. She sat straighter now and her smile widened," America? Oh wow! I've never been there until now. Is California like Death City?"

Phoenix laughed at the question, amused by it as he shook his head slightly in response. "Well for once, California doesn't really have deserts like Nevada does. So no, not really."

Winry wound her way over to Phoenix's bed, a small cart with a tray of warm food on it. Home made--Winry did her best to try and make this place not as sterile as most hospitals and clinics were out there. It's small size helped, that and the fact that the general hospital took the brunt of the civilian injuries. Otherwise she wasn't sure how any of them would manage.

"Afternoon." she greeted, pushing aside her own weariness, and the guilt she felt for being too late for these people. It was a stupid sentiment she knew, but no matter how hard she tried to shake it, a part of her couldn't help but think that if she had just been able to bring them back earlier in time, none of these people would be here.

"Hungry?"

Ah, a visitor. Good timing, too - the lack of noise in the area was starting to get to him (not that Phoenix would admit this, of course). The man turned back to glance at Winry, a small smile crossing his face at the greeting and offer of food.

"Just a little," he returned, though he wasn't being wholly honest in that response. But it wasn't like he could eat much for now anyway - just like what Watson said, only porridge for the next two days until his stomach was better to handle the more solid things. It made sense of course, but still... he did wish things didn't have to be so complicated at times.

Then again, things had always been complicated for him for a good while already.

Winry hummed a little as she got out some manageable food and water on a tray for Phoenix, but all the while she was acutely aware of him. Good cheer and a smile could often be just as much, if not better a medicine for people than an rest, herbs, or drugs but each person was different so you could never be sure if it'd have an adverse effect. Not to mention that while those things usually came naturally to Winry, in these days it was something she had to work for.

She fit the tray to some handles on either side of the tray that would allow Phoenix to slide it to and away from him as he pleased, and drew it up close to him.

"There, we go. Think this will be manageable, but don't overdo it." On the tray was some plain white bread, an apple and some porridge and a glass of water.

"Anything else I can get for you?"

Ah, food. Just what the doctor ordered, was it? Phoenix couldn't say that he wasn't going to not accept it - after everything in Michigan, even a simple meal such as this made him feel a little more blessed. Sure it might be just plain food, but it was still food and managing to eat food was a lot better than starving because of a lack of it.

"Thank you," he went, smiling still as he shifted himself to sit up properly on the bed, wincing just a bit at the pain that ran up his back because of it. "And no, I don't think I'll need anything else just yet. Nice of you to ask though."

She nodded but didn't leave quite yet, instead taking a seat to keep him company for a while and see what else she could do.

"By any chance are you a Weapon?" It was a standard question she asked in the clinic. Depending on the answer the healing process could be a lot easier--at least the physical part in any case. The rest Winry couldn't even imagine how it would go, but she would do her best by all the people who had been kidnapped.
