get off- aagh... blindingrevenge December 16 2010, 23:39:09 UTC
Regardless of the noise Saralegui made, Sasuke had known he was coming before he'd even reached for the curtain. He'd been getting lazy in his training, he'd realized, stuck on the idea that without his jutsu he couldn't do anything- but he was still a ninja. How young had he been when they'd worked on sensory deprivation before? On his left, he closed the communicator he'd had open, and was still when the meister touched his arm. He turned his face blindly towards the king.

"It's fine," He said, customarily, though the fatigue was fairly obvious in his voice. But the visit was unexpected all the same. Possibly because the last time this had happened, Saralegui hadn't turned up. But Sasuke hadn't expected it then, and hadn't really expected it this time around either. It wasn't as though he owed him anything. But those were all thoughts he'd had about his previous team, too, and look where he was now. He turned his head back to a more neutral position, flat on his back again.

"What about your hand? Did it fall off?" Probably a taunt, but it lacked the venom he'd normally brandish.

Sasuke sounded tired, and Sara didn't really blame him. That new ability had left him pretty drained as well. They'd had a bit of time to rest at the camp before returning, so at least he was functioning, but with blood loss and temporary blindness on top of that it was probably worse for his weapon.

"It's still there," he said, frowning and pulling his hand away to idly fuss with his own bandages. "It just feels raw, I suppose. The skin feels like it's half burned off..." Trailing off, he glanced to Sasuke's hands. "That was something you could do back home, correct? What hand did you use?"

He heard Saralegui pull his hand back and fuss with the bandages, and he huffed. He used to do that as a child, but it was a habit his family had stopped him from very quickly. Though that didn't mean his own didn't itch. Ignoring the feeling and the throb in his eyes, he tilted his chin just slightly as the king asked him about Chidori. He lifted his left hand, which he recalled, was the one his meister had used in that moment of crisis at the witch's base.

"It should be from using too much power, but that's probably not what it means in this place," Sasuke said somewhat flatly. He could still remember singing his own hand the time he'd been too worked up using it. His fingers flexed, as though remembering the sensation, before his hand fell to the sheets again.

He reached out to catch Sasuke's hand before it hit the sheets with his own uninjured one, lifting it back up and eying it critically for a few moments.

"...It didn't scar, then?" he asked after finding no marks, the slightest bit of hesitance in his voice. "When you did it?" There was a part of him that even still felt excited about having pulled it off at all, but with the initial thrill having worn off, he couldn't help but let himself worry over more minor details.

"Tch," A soft scoff under his breath, and he'd roll his eyes for good measure if they didn't ache so much. But his hand is all but limp in Saralegui's own. "I was also healed by a medical nin," He started, just to make the meister worry for a moment. What the hell did it matter if it scarred? Appearance had nothing to do with your capability. "If you're so worried talk to Winry." Sasuke doubted it would scar, but then again, using his Sharingan had never made his eyes bleed before- so there really was no telling.

Sasuke was terrible at making people feel better. Then again, it was doubtful that he even tried. But Sara could hear the question in his tone, the "Are you really worried about something so unimportant?" so he decided to drop the subject.

"...It doesn't matter that much," he said, feigning lost interest in the topic as he carefully laid his partner's hand back down. Changing the subject, he asked instead, "Did they say how long you would have to stay for this time?"

hello severus~! blindingrevenge December 19 2010, 04:31:27 UTC
He didn't, not most of the time at least, so when Saralegui changed topics, Sasuke was relieved. His hand twitched against the sheets before lifting and curling lightly on his own chest. He hadn't sat up yet, but the front he used these days in Saralegui's presence wasn't quite the same as the one he'd used when they first met. He'd more than proved himself to this guy, even when he hadn't deserved it, and it would be easy enough to pass this off as disinterest instead of simple fatigue should the king bring it up.

"I'll let you know when I see Winry again," He said, almost dismissively, but he was annoyed nevertheless. While being blind like this could offer him an opportunity to train in a different way, he had other things to worry about beyond his own failings right now. "I should be fine by tomorrow," He hazard a guess. Even if he wasn't, he'd be taking these bandages off anyway.

"That soon?" He was a little surprised, but who was he to complain? "Good, then. In that case, shall I wait for you to go pick up the reward?" As he spoke, voice pleasant, if neutral, Sara glanced about for a chair or something. Finding nothing, he bit back a sigh and simply turned around and leaned back against the cot's frame. He wasn't about to just sit on the mattress and make himself at home when he felt like their relationship was still a bit tenuous, but just standing there when he wasn't just stopping in briefly felt awkward and uncomfortable.

"Reward?" Somehow, in everything that had happened, Sasuke hadn't even considered what sort of payment they'd be receiving when all this was said and done. As he realized just how distant those ideas had been from his mind, he frowned. Since when was anything so important he hadn't been thinking of power? He squashed the answer before it could fully form in his head, and busied himself being distracted by the fact Saralegui had leaned against his cot. Subtle as the gesture was, he was obviously making himself comfortable, or tended to stick around at least for a little while. With a sigh, more to himself and under his breath, that depicted how insufferable he found Saralegui and the whole situation without a single word finding the air, Sasuke pushed both hands into the mattress and moved to sit up, crossing his legs as he did so.

"Mmm," the king answered conversationally. "We get $3000 between the two of us, and you're supposed to get some kishin eggs. You've had to eat those before, right?"

From behind him, he felt a tremor of movement in the bed frame and turned to see Sasuke sitting up. Frowning, Sara made a move to lay a hand on his shoulder and stop him, but partway through the motion he stopped, hand hovering a few inches from his partner as he apparently though better of it, and he pulled back. "Shouldn't you stay lying down?" he asked instead. "You won't be able to leave as early as you think if you don't let yourself heal properly..."

"Yes," He said, and didn't move, though he could all but feel the proximity of Saralegui's hand next to him. He anticipated the touch, and his brow creased only fractionally, almost imperceptible, when it never came.

"Don't worry about it," He replied. Honestly, Sasuke didn't see how sitting up or lying down would help. Really, he just felt like he was tired and had a headache, and didn't understand why he needed to be here at all. He was fairly certain the bleeding had stopped by now, but medics never listened to their patients.

"...If you're sure," Sara replied after a moment, obviously not in agreement but unwilling to start a fight. So despite a vaguely concerned look he shot the bandages over Sasuke's eyes, he dropped the subject without further argument.

But then he had no other sources for casual conversation, and he wasn't sure if Sasuke's moving had been an invitation for him to sit properly, so Saralegui remained quiet for about half a minute. Not a comfortable silence, in his opinion, but it wasn't often that he was comfortable with a silence where he didn't know what to say. It was awkward and left him feeling unsure of himself.

"...Can I ask you something?" He eventually broke the silence with a hesitant question, half out of a desire to just be saying something, and half because he knew he needed to get an answer to what was bothering him before it drove him nuts. Sara had never liked doubting himself, or letting anything alone that unsettled him.

Sasuke arched an eyebrow, and kept his faced turned in Saralegui's direction. Though he couldn't see him passed the thick of the bandages, he knew where the king was, and Sasuke felt the question merited his full attention. After all, it wasn't often Saralegui asked to question him. Even if the king gave others that sort of courtesy, they had since dropped such pretense, and as such, Sasuke couldn't figure out what this was about.

"What?" He asked, before his silence had stretched enough to invite the king to continue without prompting.

His expression fell a little further at the invitation -- part of him had hoped Sasuke would just say no, if only so he wouldn't have to ask. But that was a foolish wish. A short pause, before he quietly lifted a hand and brushed a fingertip against the bandages, just beside where the younger boy's eye would have been.

"...Is this my fault?" he asked finally, the dropped volume of his voice giving away the anxiety that his determinedly even tone was trying to hide. "It happens when resonation is off, doesn't it? I'd thought everything was better -- improved, even, if we were able to use that new ability, but..."

That was probably the last question he'd expected, and for a moment, his expression fell into sheer surprise. Confusion filtered in after a moment, his brow creasing, though he didn't move from the touch on his face. He'd been expecting it, after all, even if it was belated. He was quiet for a moment, considering what Saralegui said. He was more than willing to blame it on the Meister, after all. Sasuke had improved, or he thought he had. Resonating with Naruto had been proof enough for him.

"Using too much power makes an Uchiha's eyes bleed in my world," He said, almost diplomatic, without really answering Saralegui's question. "I don't know if it's the same here."

Sara scowled at the answer that wasn't really an answer, even more unhappy knowing that Sasuke couldn't even see it. "That wasn't my question," he said, restraining the irritation that threatened to leak into his voice. "Just answer me. Please." At the very least, Sasuke could have the decency to just say yes or no after he'd forced himself to ask.
