The first order of business was, of course, to hand over the communicators to the guests from a large box beside him. The communicator came with a manual and some other accessories.

"These should help you get in touch with the other guests and Shibusen," he said with a smile. "We're sorry about dragging you into this business... We really don't mean to! But I promise we're doing our best to figure out how to send all of you back to your homes!"

[Seimei accepts the communicator, but not without first retrieving a handkerchief, wiping it off as he maintained eye contact with Spirit.]

And how should I be certain that this place isn't an elaborate illusion?

[Huh? Did he just get another Adrian Monk? Spirit grins and then, pleasantly:] I could pinch you if you like?

[Only Monk doesn't have the probability of getting violent. Sigh. Seimei simply chuckles, a wry smirk on his face. He doesn't really seem pleased. But he simply bites his tongue on the matter, instead concerning himself with this new... threat.]

That won't be necessary.

Do you work for Septimal Moon?

Given the size of the organization, Shibusen's headquarters also proved massive, with a full-sized library, several dozen classrooms and a large clinic to support its staff of trained meisters and weapons, and more importantly, its students.

"Shibusen is an organization and a school that trains meisters and weapons, as was mentioned when you were still in the chamber," Spirit started, walking in front of the crowd as he led them through the many hallways of the place. "We'll be conducting classes here every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 10:30 in the morning, to make sure that you guys know what these terms are all about, how this world works, and other things."

He led them to a very large, ornate, and symmetrical door with the sign DEATH THE KID on it. "This is Death the Kid's room. He's the current Shinigami, replacing his father."

At the mention of class, Romano froze. After a pause, he deadpanned, "Class? We... have to go to school here?"

As probably anyone could guess... he wasn't really the most stellar of students. The only schooling that he could remember was those Spanish lessons he got from Spain in his childhood, and the only phrase that had actually stuck was "Dame un beso." Yeah, school wasn't a very compelling idea for him.

"You don't have to, but it would be a good way to learn a lot about this world, and how to use your newfound abilities."

He hadn't noticed the girl until just now, but his mood and tone definitely lightened when he noticed that she was actually quite pretty!

Giving a smile her way, Romano asked, "Thanks, bellisima! Will you be going to these classes too?" And... that may have been a wink.

[ OUTSIDE SHIBUSEN ] daddyscythe June 19 2010, 08:08:07 UTC
Spirit led the entire group outside, where they were greeted by their first sight of Shibusen's exterior and the rest of Death City. Since Shibusen sat on top of and in the middle of the city, it did offer quite a view!

"Death City is probably very different from the world you're used to, especially when it comes to technology and, uh, decor." Apparently, death wasn't a prevailing theme in other worlds? How strange. Still, Spirit wasn't one to diss another culture. There WAS one thing he should mention, though, regarding that giant flying thing over the city.

"That one, though! It's a carnival that comes here once a year! You're just in time to catch it on its second day. After tomorrow, it'll be another year before we see it again. Your communicators should serve as an entry pass to the carnival, which entitles you to free food, rides, and other events." Oh, yeah, the certificate. "We'll give you some gift certificates to spend later ( ... )

"Wait, hold on." Kazu'd been mostly quiet until this point, accepting everything given and told to him without much fuss mostly because he was too freaked out to do anything else. But even though Kazu had a greater capacity for processing insanity then most, he still had a breaking point, and he had just reached it. "Why are there giant candles. How do you keep wax from falling on people's heads? What happens when they burn down!" His voice, almost breathless at first, seemed to rise to faint, panicked squeak as he continued, like the physical and logical impossibility of those giant candles was a hundred times more alarming than being pulled into another dimension.

"Calm down," Azusa said, glasses glinting at the panicked questions, but her voice softened minutely as she considered the possibility that the boy might just be too stressed, and was fixating on something as a result. "They're not real candles, just statues."

Death the Kid probably wouldn't ever be able to set foot inside the school if they had actual candles in place of those spires.

"Are you all right? What's your name?"

"It has a certain style. The candles were an inspired touch," he noted distractedly, apparently largely to himself. On the whole, he was taking in the whole city with a faintly amused air of perplexity. Reminded, he reached into his pocket to pull out the communicator, suddenly looking much more intent.

"What approximately is the range on these?"

[ AROUND DEATH CITY ] daddyscythe June 19 2010, 08:11:56 UTC
It wasn't long before Spirit was leading the entire group down Death City's roads. He stopped in the middle of the plaza some ways off Shibusen and held up his own communicator, well-worn and a sparkly black.

"If you look at your communicator, it shows a map of the city and where you are. If you look to your right, there is the Holocaust mall, and a line of other stores that you might find useful during your stay here." He grinned at that, and pointed at some wanted signs. "We're paying for your basic necessities, but if you want to earn extra, we have some deals with the stores here so you guys can apply for jobs, too."

Romano was attempting to be patient during this entire tour, but being led around and having to walk a lot and seeing such a foreign and strange place that he would have to live in was doing anything but wonders for his mood. And his energy.

"Dammit," he muttered, idly gazing around at his surroundings, "if they don't have any fucking quality coffee 'round here, I swear..."

With an impatient sigh, Romano asked, "What kinda jobs are we talking 'bout here?" While he really did not like working and putting effort into anything whatsoever, it couldn't hurt to know. After all, the term basic necessities sounded anything but promising. After all, they gave you basic necessities at prison camps, but it didn't mean they were anything sufficient.

She had classes to teach later, but there was never any harm in following to make sure that Spirit had things under control wasn't being overwhelmed, like in one of the other batches where his tie kept getting grabbed. Azusa had to endure several hours of wailing from him because the tie Maka gave him got handled so roughly.

"We have several Deathbucks branches scattered all over the city. They serve brewed and specialty coffees at all hours of the day," she replied evenly. She could see that this guest was getting impatient. Perhaps some sort of encouragement was in order...?

"And as for jobs, it depends on the establishments. The shopping, entertainment, financial, and residential districts all have stores looking to hire people." A pause. "What are you good at?"

When Romano saw that a pretty young lady had decided to answer his question, his expression brightened, and he laughed in a slightly sheepish sort of manner.

"Glad to hear!", he replied... though, in truth, he was hoping that these Deathbucks were nothing like his world's Starbucks because that was by no means quality coffee.

Then she asked her next question, and he didn't even have to think for a beat before stating, "Cooking." Then another beat. "Fishing and farming too, but I'm guessing they won't have too many jobs for that."

[ CASUALTY COMMUNAL ] daddyscythe June 19 2010, 08:17:33 UTC
Not long after leaving the plaza, the entire group found themselves in front of the Casualty Communal. A small, one-floor building could be seen a little off ways from it. Spirit pointed to that first.

"That's another clinic for the guests. It's newly constructed and managed by the guests themselves. As for Casualty Communal itself -- staying here is for free! There's a common room and lounge on the first floor, and the rooms themselves are pretty nice. However, if you find a partner of your own, you can move to Death City Heights. The rooms there are really awesome!"

He led them to the front desk, urging them to line up to get their keys. "Just register and you're done. If you have questions, I'm just here to answer them!" The Communal was getting quite crowded, though. Hopefully, the other dorms would be finished soon.

[After waiting patiently through the tour, Seimei decides that he has some questions to be answered. Careful to control his expression, of course, he asks what he wants to know.]

I have a number of questions.

First and foremost... is there enough room in a communal room for two people, should my younger brother appear?

Second, you mentioned Meisters and Weapons. When you register, are your souls bound together through contract?

[There's one girl who steps up now]

My name is Liz Thompson. I am also a native of this world, and student of Shibusen.

To answer your question, yes, there is. There is also the villa which is bigger, but that is usually reserved for partners. Should you partner with your brother, that would be another option for the two of you.

The second--no, they aren't Technically you can have more than one person you resonate with, but the more people you resonate with, the weaker the partnership is. Picking one person and sticking with them allows for a closer bond to be formed over time, and thus makes it stronger.

[He doesn't seem to mind (care?) about the change in who is answering.]

If Meisters are anything like Sacrifices in my world... I do truly doubt that.

So you are free to chose your partners? Sounds a lot more liberal than the system set in my world, at least.
