Church mass. It is a religious ceremony for those of the Catholic faith. The day after All Hallows' Eve is All Saints' Day, so I have to attend and pray.

SOUNDS BORING. DO CATHOLIC FAITHERS DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT FOR HALLOW'S EVE OR DO THEY DRESS LIKE IDIOTS AND SCROUNGE UP CANDY TOO?

I suppose how interesting it is depends on how dedicated you are to the religion. I am not certain! Things regarding this day seem to have changed very much - at home the children dressed up and made noises, but it was more to keep the spirits away than for sweets.

Mass? I haven't heard of anyone preforming that for a while now.

[type type type SHE WILL GAIN ALL THE READING EXPERIENCE.] There is a church in the city where services are held. I go there quite often to pray.

No, no, all the credit is to you. You are such an intelligent young woman! But I do agree that practice makes perfect -- you have the books which I have sent to you?

do people make and give away cakes as well as candy? is there a story behind that?

[text, lol she feels you gai. typing is hard.] maidoforleans March 25 2011, 10:05:58 UTC
I do not know if the people here do, but at home it was common. It is to replace pagan soul cakes - now cakes are given in return for a promise to pray for the giver. Of course, it may simply be that we did not have the sort of sweets available here.

so then this is a religious holiday for you? but you use cakes. that seems like a good thing to use instead of more violent things.

Yes, the Church adapted pagan customs to help ease conversion among them. Now we may enjoy ourselves and still help the souls of the departed.

[she's starting to think maybe she should have specified when she said that. also, is there supposed to be so many question marks? and what does colon o mean? did Watson not get up to that part yet???]

It is a religious service of the Catholic faith. The day after All Hallows' Eve is a holy day, and attending mass is required by practitioners.
