THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES
even if they weren't so great. Some theoretical five years into the future, BREW's wish has been granted. Your character has evolved into what you'd planned for them, they've made the CR you've wanted them to make, and now, the war is over. To express their gratitude, Shibusen has one last surprise for their guests: the

But at the end of the day, Gai is a ninja. He's dedicated to Konohagakure. They're in the middle of a war and his duty is to be there, fighting for them, giving of himself to the best of his abilities. This is what he gave his word to do. To do otherwise would be to become a missing-nin and betray the village that trained and trusted in him.
It's not that it's an easy choice. There's nothing easy about it. But there's no choice to it, either, in his mind.]

Good.
[There's a pause.]
I am not sure what to say. I wish you well here. [A wry twist comes to the smile.] Perhaps Naruto will become a Hokage of sorts here, and you can be his strong person. Every leader needs that.

Someone needs to make sure he doesn't get himself killed.
Reply
Exactly. Be well, Sasuke.
[He holds out his hand, in case the boy wants to shake it.]

and it's only when he lets go, and the conversation is at a close, that Sasuke finally says it. something he never intended to admit to, nevermind say out loud.]
Keep them safe.

See you later. [he tosses it over his shoulder, and walks back into the crowd.]

Seriously? After all this damn time I've been stuck with you, you're skipping town?

Karkat. It has been an honor to get to know you! But I have a duty and a responsibility. It is part of who I am, which I am sure you know by now. I cannot abandon this.
Reply
Yeah, I know. Huge assfuck war going on where you're from, students to train and everything.
Reply
The war, yes. I could make a huge difference in whether we win or lose, and I must be there. ...It is not as if I wish to leave you, or my other friends. But I have dedicated my life to Konoha.
Reply
Death City won't be the same, though. I mean, in the sense that it'll be a lot quieter at training and I won't have as many goddamn spikes in blood pressure.

[Now the smile's back in full force.]
Of course that is what you meant. It is all about your blood pressure and peace and quiet. You will not miss me at all. [In five years, Gai has gotten a bit of a handle on teasing sarcasm.] On the other hand, if I remember you, I will miss you.
Reply
[yeah he's pretty upset by this but he is definitely NOT going to get all sentimental.]
You probably won't, so, uh. I guess... thanks for all the annoying uplifting speeches and constant tolerance of my bullshit and everything.
Reply
[He sidesteps closer to Karkat.]
Shall we hug? Just this once? Since I am going?
[And before Karkat can say anything Gai is leaning to hug, but not too quickly. If it's something Karkat's completely against, he can easily evade. ...Or youth roll.]
