It's a brilliantly languid affair. They're in the park together--Central Park--and the sun is far too bright and the sky is far too grey. The snow surrounds them, hardens into ice and they laugh at one another when they take turns slipping on an invisible path.

Time disappears and becomes forever. Play on the swings and write names in an untouched patch of snow, admire a sparkling fountain and build forts for a snowball fight.

There's no need for hats pulled low over their foreheads, no need for dramatic sunglasses to hide their eyes, no need to walk while on the lookout for men and women with small digital cameras and DoCoMo phones cocked and ready.

They feel young and carefree--like they don't have millions of fans--like they're not being watched.

Ah, so this is what it's like to be able to breathe.

"This is why I did it," Jin says, closes his eyes and tilts his chin toward the clouds. "This feeling--you know what I mean, right?" He laughs. "I'm not good at explaining things."

"I know what you mean," Kame replies, idly picks at soft cashmere gloves. "It's nice," he says, focuses on the crunch of snow beneath new lace-up boots.

"It's different there though. It’s different from New York City." He pronounces the name with a careful, practiced American accent. "It's warmer." He giggles. "It's more laid back--ah, but it's all different from--"

"Tokyo. Japan," Kame finishes. "I understand," he insists.

And so they walk in silence.

"Are you angry at me, Kamenashi?" Jin asks.

"No," Kame says shortly, and he means it. This trip to New York--being able to experience a little of what Jin is experiencing--he thinks that if he were angry before, he wouldn't be angry now.

"I’m coming back," Jin answers the question that died before it reached the cold air. "I'm coming back soon," he says, wraps an arm around Kame's shoulders and leans in close. "So don't worry, Kazuya." He realizes their proximity, pulls away quickly and laughs cheekily, maybe anxiously, before continuing. His words are quiet and Kame has to lean towards him to hear them. "I'm sorry for being selfish. I want to tell everyone else that too, but you first, since I owe it to you the most." The words come out in one breath, like they've been welled up inside and have just found their only chance at escape.

"Stupid, don't apologize," Kame scoffs, smiles and knocks into Jin with his hips. "It's not like you."

Kame watches Jin's mouth curve into a grin. "Thank you."

It's very casual, really, how they part ways with little smiles. Kame goes to meet the others for dinner while Jin goes to pack his bags to return to California. The sun sets when the sky turns from grey to black, and there's nothing special about the way the city lights up like it does every other night.

Except for maybe a couple of knowing hearts finding temporary refuge within its grasp.
