Fluuuuuuuuuuff tiem get. Set in theskytides, on a nice random night~It was no big surprise that recent events had left Hijikata quite busy. With everything that had been happening in the last few weeks and especially in the last few days, there had been almost zero time for the boatswain to rest. The swordsman had to attend to one thing after another in a ( Read more... )

Suffice to say, Hijikata was not the ONLY one who had been on his toes all week, from morning until evening. Boatswains, after all, were perhaps the most overworked officers ever, with all the hardship and virtually none of the benefits ( ... )

Ever the light sleeper, even in his exhaustion it didn't take too long before Hijikata was starting to stir from all the soft noises that Roy was making near him. His breathing, the cricks of his body, the rustling of papers - all those were all-too easily caught by his senses, and soon enough the samurai slowly to awaken from his somewhat impromptu nap.

A quiet groan sounded his awakening as the man returned to conciousness, fingers twitching as he shifted to push himself up back into a sitting position while ignoring the numbness that was moving up his fingers and arms due to the position they had been in earlier. He pushed himself back up properly onto the chair, eyelids slowly opening to a half-opened state as he stared blearily in front of him, his mind still too dead to start working properly any time soon.

Roy, of course, quickly noticed that his companion was finally waking up - the alchemist looked up, blinked at the sight of Hijikata looking somewhat above the level of a zombie rising fresh from its grave.

"Good morning."

Having not expected anyone at all, Hijikata made a wordless surprised sort of sound as he slowly turned towards the alchemist, hazy dark blue eyes staring blankly at the other man for a good few moments before his brain finally registered who it was.

"...Mustang?" came the tired but nevertheless surprised voice. What was he doing here? Hijikata was pretty sure it was already well past midnight by now.

Roy made no further comment; he knew, from Hijikata's reaction, that he had won. He was getting much better at guessing that sort of thing.

Instead, the alchemist returned to what he was doing.

"Get some rest."

"Mmmn," came the wordless response from the swordsman as he closed and opened his eyes again, barely managing to even keep them half open. It was pretty clear cut that sleep was in order - and Hijikata was going to get to that soon - but before that...

"What about you?"

The swordsman managed to looked somewhat unconvinced by that statement despite the exhausted look and the half-asleep state his mind was in. "You look about as dead as a... dead person."

...bad analogy, but you couldn't blame a man who was barely awake in the first place.

"I'll sleep later."

Roy pulled up a chair beside the bed, reaching over to snag the papers he had been looking at earlier.

Hijikata only stared at his twin (somewhat sleepily - the bed was pretty welcoming) for a good long while before he spoke again.

"...you should sleep too." Even the swordsman could see that Roy was just one step short of being a dead man walking.

Roy considered his brother for a moment, and then reached over to ruffle his hair with a small laugh and a nice smile.

"I will after you do."

There was a quiet, soft sound at the hair ruffling and his face turned slightly red, but the man wasn't going to be distracted now. Being a secretive worrywart he could be whenever it concerned someone close to him, Hijikata only reached out and held his brother's sleeve, tugging it weakly.

"...now?"

That wasn't surprising. Roy sighed, feigning exasperation, disguising his fondness as well as he could. The alchemist then shrugged off his coat, kicked off his boots and moved over.

"Shove."

The samurai let go when Roy moved, watching him as he took off his coat and boots and then blinking at the one word command, taking a moment for the word to sink into his mind before he did as asked - moving more to the side of his bed so that the alchemist would have space to move in.

Roy shifted about in order to get comfortable, considered things for just a moment, and then moved to wrap his arms around his twin and draw him close. He shifted up, in order to plop his chin on the other's head and rest his chest against the other's back.

"...Your bed is small."

Hijikata made no protest as he was wrapped around, only accepting the warmth and closeness and snuggled up a bit closer when he could, relaxing visibly in his brother's arms. Wrapped around in this warmth, if only took mere seconds before the swordsman was beginning to fight not to doze off too quickly.

"Never saw any reason to change it."
