Who: Clovis and Souji Where: Roving around Som! What: The date that isn't a date; head hurt yet? Style: Third (but feel free to switch it up.) Status: Closed
"It would be unfortunate for a prince to not look his best always." Clovis lightly tugged on his cravat, tugging out any wrinkles that happened to be in the material
( ... )
"Selfish?" His eyes rolled once more to the ceiling as he couldn't see how it was. It was a place that lovers were supposed to go and have fun. Well, at least, that was how it somehow became. What he really wanted was to create a fun area for everyone to play in, and it seemed like it was mostly enjoyed. He made a soft humming noise -- was it really a selfish idea to take someone there?
"If they want to date me, then they wish to be around me." He blinked a few times as he wasn't following Souji at all. "Which means taking them to a place that embodies me just further allows them to spend time with me."
His eyes widened as his eyebrows shot up into the air -- immediate response was something along the lines of who told the Eleven, but he kept himself from saying so. "I have no time to take people to such things. I did have parties, however, that I enjoyed going to. A lot of people were invited to them."
Souji listened intently to his explanation and possibly for the first time since meeting Clovis felt something other than annoyance, surprise or amusement concerning him. With a tamer smile, more subdue and serious, he looked the boy over; and really, despite his age, he acted like a boy; and felt badly for him. Compassion had never been his strongest suit, but as it was clear to Souji now that Clovis had never really connected to anyone, not on that level. It must be lonely, to be the only one that interested in yourself. And it explained a lot of the posturing.
"I thought being interested in someone other than yourself is what prompts a date. In that case, you'd want to learn about them~ Besides." Drumming his fingers against the table again, he shrugged. "Is an amusment park you designed really all there is to you? There's nothing personal about something designed for 'everyone'. Nothing really special." He'd take in a breath and looked up, scanning the sky for a moment. Mn. Maybe not important~
Clovis held his chin as he let his eyes continue to focus on the distance to the side. He just was a little confused if that was what prompted a date or not. "But they wanted to be with me." Eventually, he made a dismissive gesture as he decided that it was hardly worth too much more of his time to think about it.
"No, there is quite a bit to me." His eyes closed as he tipped his chin up a little bit more in a proud manner. Clovis was going to begin to list off what it was that he had been doing that made him just that much great than most, then blinked a few times as he pouted just a bit at the words that there was nothing special about it. "I do beg to differ."
Another noise of annoyance as he lifted his menu, missing what it was that Souji was trying to tell him. "Yes, yes. I'm looking ... let's see..." A beat. "Quiche or oysters sounds like that would be good with some white tea. How about some raspberry tarts for dessert?"
Souji was sure that Clovis could beg to differ until he was blue in the face. Grateful for the diversion of food, he gave the suggested menu his nod of approval. "Sounds good."
And, as Clovis was a man (presumably) and men did like their liquor, he was quick to add, "Order wine or sake if you like. But I'm no fun~ I don't drink. But don't let it prevent you if you want something stronger than tea." Perhaps he'd just been living with Saitou too long; he doubted if his somber friend could go an entire meal without drink to accompany it. He spent many evenings at home being ribbed for choosing tea over something stronger.
That said, he'd hail for a waiter and let Clovis do the talking. If there was one thing the Prince seemed golden at, it was giving orders.
"I do hope that this cafe has such good oysters, at least. But that's quite risky to eat, hm. I suppose the quiche would be best to have for lunch." He continued to hum to himself. Eating poor cheese was a little less painful than eating bad oysters.
"Hm? Well, I suppose that a bit of red wine wouldn't be terrible for lunch." Another slight rubbing of his chin. He nodded to himself as he made the selections for the two of them. His hands clapped together once in the same gesture he made with closing the menu. Red wine for him and white tea for his companion.
When the waiter came, Clovis began to explain what it was that he wanted with the usual manner that he speaks to others -- flowery and deepening his voice to make it sound more like he felt that it should. His actual voice was a lot softer and not quite feminine which he disliked almost as much as he did his height. Letting out a sigh when he finished, he handed the menus over to the waiter and focused his attention back to Souji.
The newest addition to Clovis' long and growing list of personality quirks had Souji swallowing another laugh. Clovis has all the pomp and circumstance of his Vice Commander, combined with all of the antics of Harada when he was flush with a little too much sake. It was almost as if he was constantly in a game of acting; amusing to watch, but almost tiring in a way.
Shrugging his shoulders softly he decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
"We're apparently from different worlds, having lunch at a cafe in a dreamscape, on a fake date. There must be plenty to talk about, given the situation. Suggestions~? Or I'll be forced to come up with the topic, and you'll start your pouting and huffing and puffing again." Teased, because he couldn't help himself. It was so easy.
"I could tell you about the Britannian Empire." His head gave a little tilt to the side like it was some sort of threat that he would do so. It was what he felt that he understood best; though, he never quite understood the politics that his world was built upon. Best not to question these things as far as he was concerned -- the world worked, what else mattered?
"Or we could talk on art." All topics that he cared about. He tapped his chin lightly with his index finger. Schneizel would probably not approve if he was to speak only on what he liked. He should try to put the likes of the other before his own, just to show that he can do so. "Or you can tell me about your hobbies."
"You could tell me about both." He agreed. If he wasn't quite curious in either subject, then he was at least interested in how Clovis would talk about those things. Politicians and high-born men always had a way of speaking that Souji found interesting. A way of lying, a way of seeming gracious, and a way of being more open, honest, and transparent then they'd meant to, through those means. Be they playing arrogance or playing humble, it was always a show

"Britannia." His fingers interlaced as he thought of his home -- the swelling of his heart was mixed with nationalism and woe. He would never again be able to see his homeland, but he could bring pieces of it to Somarium, couldn't he? His shoulders dropped just slightly before he straightened them once more. "Are there words to explain the most perfect empire in the world? I do not believe so
( ... )
Chin nestled into his palm, Souji listened to the monologue that followed. As dramatic as a Noh stage play were the many emotions that seemed to play across Clovis' face as he spoke; genuine emotion, at that. It gave him a different sort of voice and expression, wider somehow, warmer somehow. Souji, ever distracted from topics he found uninteresting, and ever with a lean toward analyzing those around him as if they were bugs he'd caught on the tip of his sword, found himself phasing in and out of what Clovis was actually saying. He was far more interested in how he was saying it, what about him changed as he spoke, and then figuring out why
( ... )
"I could go on about Britannia, but I'd rather not gush so. It is somewhat unbecoming." His hands rose to make a dismissive gesture, even though he did not realize that he had indeed done just what he had said that he would rather not have done. "Hm? What else? Technology, government, education, economy." His fingers ticked off what his country excelled at above all others -- he couldn't imagine being raised in any land but his own. He shuddered at the thought of being so barbaric and uneducated
( ... )
Souji chuckled faintly at the remark that gushing was unbecoming, and gave Clovis the benefit of the doubt by assuming he was being purposefully ironic
( ... )
His hands clapped together as he knew this from his history lessons. He didn't really care about such things, to be honest -- what mattered to him was that they were already present and that was what was important, but he did try to maintain his studies enough. This was one bit of information that he recalled and felt proud of himself for being able to do so. Noticing the childish gesture, he set his hands down on his lap instead. "We can trace our origins back to 55 B.C. As such, it is quite old, wouldn't you say
( ... )
"Aah, that is old~ Impressive." He relents, finally. Though Japan was crafted by the Gods, China was nearly as old; and from China came an expanse of culture, respected and even emulated (until perfected by them of course~). So the age of Britannia could be respected, at very least~
As to his favourite poem, Souji chuckled under his breath. It was silly and it suited him; a compliment on the surface with a double-meaning barely hidden beneath. "Nice choice. It fits." It sounded almost a bit childish; but maybe that's why he liked it. "My favourite is... 'Here upon ancient house, paved with a hundred stones, ferns grow in the eaves; But numerous as these odds and ends are, the old memories are more numerous still.' By Emperor Juntoku." He smirked a little bit, then went to tap his napkin. "Do you have a pen?"
"That's an acceptable poem." Acceptable for one that is not from Britannia or part of the Areas that they come from. He blinked once a little confused by the question before fishing through his clothes. There were inner pockets as he would rather not have outer-pockets -- those ruined his outfit, as far as he was concerned. This meant that he had to turn his chair slightly to look for what it was that he was looking for before producing a pen.
Of course, he would have one. Sometimes inspiration would come to him and he needed to write it down. Holding it out the pen, he was interested enough to see what it was that Souji was going to create. "Are you going to draw something?" That was the immediate question that came to mind. He lifted up his glass moments later to drink a little of the wine, waiting to see what the other was up to.
