Does anyone have any recommendations for a program that can convert mp4 or mkv files into avi? Preferably a free program, but I would be willing to pay if it's good. My OS is windows 7. For some reason I thought Handbrake could, but nope. AutoGK & TMGEnc are also failures. Google has not been much help.

Is it too late to do this? Due to various real life shenanigans, I fell out of the vidding habit last year, so I didn't make that many. I hope to rediscover my editing love this year.
