He needs to stop going back to his abusive husband, Fox. "This time will be different, baby, I swear."

Man, that Dollhouse thing is depressing.

I know. I especially loved how the network didn't like that she had no free will and couldn't remember stuff. UM HI, THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE SHOW, DUMBASSES. Otherwise, they're just making Alias, with a different mission each week. Which I guess is what they want.

each episode will follow the story of a single individual from beginning to end.

Ooh, that sounds really cool! Kind of Law and Order-esque, except without even a minimal core cast. Which should be harder to screw up than a giant seemingly immortal ensemble. *glares at Heroes*

I'm not really into any Whedon fandoms but I still feel bad for Joss. But I'd have thought he'd have learned his lesson re: Fox by now.

Yeah, I think it could be neat. Plus, if you don't like a character, they move on to someone else next episode. The fandom could be fun, as well. Because fans could then take those character introductions and run with them, expand them in all sorts of ways.

But I'd have thought he'd have learned his lesson re: Fox by now.
I know. You'd think. But I guess writers are lucky to have their shows picked up at all, so they can't really be choosy. Still, his abusive relationship with Fox is getting ridiculous.

No matter how depressing the Dollhouse related news is, I'm always amuzed at how much he talks like Xander.
I tend to forget that Joss isn't the huge name, "do whatever you want" generally acknowledged genius we tend to think he is- I don't know a single person that doesn't know Buffy (etc), but in that grand TV scheme, nothing he's done was especially successful. Maybe Dr. Horrible, but that still might be a nerd thing.

I am so sick of SciFi being looked down on as lesser or somehow not legitimate.I think this is one of the reasons BSG didn't really work for me - all of the time they spend claiming that, sure, there's spaceships and robots and stuff, but the show is good despite that. That it's REAL TV, not fakey mcfake sci-fi TV, because no one as smart as them would make that sort of show. This coming after SG-1, which really seemed to LOVE being sci-fi, was interested in pushing the borders of what we expected from the genre. I don't think they ever told me that they thought they were making "important television", but they just ( ... )

He really does talk like Xander.

I know what you mean about BsG. I never watched any extras or behind the scenes, so I never really saw any of that. But I have read a few articles about the show that had that attitude. But I still love it to pieces.

I know I've read before that Xander was always closely based on Joss and the way he talks and thinks, but occasionally Joss comes out with quotes like that, which I can't help but hear in Nick's Xander voice.

The "were so great" attitude sort of ruined BSG for me. It's one of the big reasons I generally avoid "behind the scenes" stuff - I get all invested in the concept of these shows as cohesive works of art made by people who all like each other and love what they are doing, and watching the SG-1 extras just reinforced that. Normally, I refuse to watch anything labled "special features", but M insisted, and it just seemed like too much trouble to leave the room.

And BSG is a very good show, and I do think it's doing very good things for Sci-Fi and television in general. It just didn't work for me. And I don't think it's as good as it thinks it is - it's a problem I had with the latter seasons of West Wing, ALL of Studio 60, and most of the big "important" dramas. As soon as the show starts telling me it thinks it is great, there's ( ... )

UH OH. This sounds familiar...
Yeah, that made me glare at FOX a lot too. I'm at least glad he had a little more time for rewrites now. (And I wanted the relationship stuff, dammit!!)

Oooh, I hadn't heard about 'Superpowers' before. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Don't you know that "relationships" are a waste of time? We could be blowing more shit up!

Yeah, Superpowers sounds cool. There's also a new UK show out called "No Heroics" that I've been meaning to check out.
