Retard moment of the week

I was teaching freshmen how to do a keyboard repair on the XO. Now, when an XO has never been opened up before, things can stick a little. So instead of being able to, say, pull out pieces you sometimes have to force them a little.

So, we were trying to remove the piece pictured here and it was sticking a bit. So I grabbed it, braced my hand and ( Read more... )

Dude, don't DO that. Getting hurt in retarded ways is supposed to be my job.

Speaking of which, current move-in casualty count, all during the last 7 days: right hand third finger middle knuckle (protruding screw, nearly healed), inside second joint of index finger (pressing down on knife trying to cut through thick bread crust, nearly healed), left thumb knuckle (sandpaper; I thought it was healed and then I chopped a habanero), eyes (chop habanero then wipe face - fine this morning), left thumb (overzealous envelope-opening).

I wasn't much less accident prone as a kid, and have definitely had to wipe blood off the piano keys before (do something else and not realize I'm bleeding, sit down to practice, start playing, hyperfocus, realize keys are slippery...)

Also, how did you get the bandaids out of your pocket with two bleeding thumbs? Ring and pinky fingers?

Fished my wallet out with last 3 fingers, extracted bandaids. It's not actually that hard to manipulate [large] things without thumbs if you can use both hands on it. It's more the fine motor control that thumbs make handy. Oh, and playing music.
