I was thinking about posting up my responses as well but you've hit everything and more. I was actually surprised at the quotes and also the pictures used - for example, Sunny's pic didn't seem to match her quote - so it makes me wonder how much of a say they've had in creating them. They're promo posters so of course there's a marketing scheme to them, but at the same time, it makes me wary that they're using such blatant drama/troll type marketing. Are the other groups' like this too?
Kangta: Pretty interesting. BoA: A little trollzy but still quite interesting. f(x): LolKrystal with her CUTE, but otherwise lots of food for thought. Shinee: Lol. It's like an after-school special, and then Jonghyun is just like "Fuck that, Imma troll everything."
I think the pictures are the most random part, there's no rhyme or reason to them. But the posters themselves are so cheesy and photoshop fodder, too. At any rate, these posters aren't going to intrigue anyone who isn't already in the fandom. As expected of SM these days. -_- Except maybe Kangta's. Or Victoria's. Maybe Yuri's, because that picture *_*
At any rate, these posters aren't going to intrigue anyone who isn't already in the fandom. ... especially because of that. Grey mentioned how they sound pretty pessimistic, which is part of what's so weird about this. Is SM deliberately trying to troll their fans? Does SM even do that?? So. Confused.
On the other hand, it's the positive or humble ones that are the most cheesy and will put non-fans off. The negative ones like Kangta, Yoona, or Victoria's are the ones that will intrigue them to maybe take a peek at the film.
Apop's earnestness just isn't going to fly in the West as a whole. The reason the existing international fanbase loves Apop's shameless positive "sincerity" is because they were looking for something different from their local pop culture, which inherently means that it won't appeal as much to people who were fine with it, the targets of a true push for international recognition.
Man, I never thought that SM could have had the emphasis on the members' ~bonds~ better than they did with DBSK, but lo and behold, I think they've built an even bigger trench for SNSD to get out of. Can you imagine the shitstorm that would occur if any of the 9 were to leave any time soon? I guess it would be a bit different if it was Hyoyeon leaving versus, say, Taeyeon or Jessica, but with people being so obsessive over ~the power of 9~, I'm just waiting for people to lose their shit. I'm a terrible person.
I think it would depend more on what the leaving member was trying to do post-SNSD, as well as the reactions of the other members. If everyone says it was a mutual decision, fans would probably have no choice but to support it. If, say, Sooyoung or Seohyun chose to "focus on her studies," or Hyoyeon disappeared into SMEnt to become a choreographer/backdancer/all of the things Jaewon now does like DJing, etc., then I think fans would be okay with that, too, because it's not an obvious snub to the others.
A Hangeng situation, on the other hand, would produce epic wank. I would need so much popcorn.
Man, I am so immune to ridiculous member changes now after all of the shit that recently went down in the 48 franchise. Everyone's actually disappointed that there haven't been any dropped bomb announcements at the SKE concert these past few days. XD
Did you hear that subgroup rumor that was going around? I remember like a year (or two???) ago when a subgroup rumor was going around and everyone was like "DNW!! Nothing without9!!" I was pretty surprised that the reactions were so different this time around.
(Not that anything was official - but I think it still shows a change in attitude towards subgrouping. Perhaps it's also because we're so used to them having solo activities now?)
Quick, if Big Bang is any indication they'll want to break the group up unless someone gets into an epic scandal! Get one of those girls into an accident stat!
Hyoyeon Quote: "I cried out loud when my audition performance went wrong." BG word: ANXIOUS
I almost want to say that this sounds like in five years of having debuted, it's like HyoYeon's saying, "When is this gonna pay off?" If she's looking all the way back to her audition, you can almost say that being in SNSD has been one long audition process into the entertainment industry and she's still anxiously waiting on the verdict of how she's been received and on how she's doing--is she making all the missteps and going the wrong way about it? Or are all the things that she perceives as missteps actually working in her favor? Because if something went wrong in her audition, it didn't work against her--she was still taken in as a trainee. So if she feels like she's not being the type of celebrity people want to see, it does not necessarily mean that she is being that public personality that isn't interesting to people. Perhaps this sense (in her mind or from the perspective of these words) is emphasized in light of the fact that she's
( ... )
And like usual, you've managed to word everything so perfectly. It strikes me that the quotes are meant to be a space for the artist to reflect on their history, but for the BG word to represent their current state. That both of Hyo's are in the same vein and in a negative light as well basically means that she does not look kindly on her own career all these years.
*spittakes* Those are fantastic. Eff, tumblr's search and tag functions are so useless. I have half of a mind to do a series myself using the We are UFI lyrics. Which seriously, the real posters are following to a T. I even already told askbask what SNSD members would fit each lines.
