Apop holiday song project

Nov 30, 2011 21:00

It's December, which means we get bombarded with the same old Christmas songs over and over again. Now I do have some Christmas songs I don't mind hearing every year, and there is an art to the holiday song that sometimes I just can't resist, just as with regular bubblegum. But like with regular bubblegum, sometimes I can't stand the lyrical ( Read more... )

Ah, yes, the other reason I love pimp posts: I get to learn about new artists and songs.

For the unknowing:
Profile of the band
Although, this song appears to be by GOING STEADY rather than the Ging Nang Boyz. Quibble, since three of the four members are the same, and probably why the Ging Nang Boyz were playing it.

Yeah exactly, they're the same band basically. For the two Ging Nang Boyz albums they re-recorded a bunch of their old material. I like this new version better than the old one.

yay SCANDAL

Surprised you didn't give us this predictably hyper-active tribute to Santa

Funniest part is when they get stuck on "coco-coco-coconuts". Coconuts aren't THAT big a part of Christmas.

If "winter", "Christmas", "Xmas/X'mas", or "Snow" weren't in the title (including yuki, the japanese word for snow) it probably didn't show up in my search. So if I hadn't already known about the H!P winter songs like Shiroi Tokyo or YOU & I & YOU & I, then they probably wouldn't be in this post. And I don't follow MomoClo except for what blogs I read link.(And Mirai Bowl and Coco-Natsu)

But ah, MomoClo, when I'm in the mood for your hyperactiveness I love you. How many ways can we sing monsyllables of "Santa Claus"? Shisus, that's special. Lolwtf that slo-mo food fight.
The big irony is that Coco-Natsu is a summer song right there in the title what with "natsu"= summer. But since this San-sansansansan santa sansansansansansansansan...song is basically another Coco-Natsu it makes sense for them to throw it in there as a lampshade. Man sometimes I love MomoClo's brand of crazy.

BTW, the dance for Coco-Natsu is one of the most glorious pieces of insane ever. I feel exhausted just watching.

I wonder if there are any S.H.E songs that mention snow/winter that aren't ballads, since there is a lack of Cpop here... :3

Ballads are cool, too, for this project. And isn't S.H.E T-pop? :3

Well now we're getting a new SM Christmas album. All in English, so get your cringe ready.

Cringe would be for if I wanted the song to be good. This, I'll be listening to in anticipation of delightfully mangled English. Although Kpop tends to do more "grammatically correct English phrases that have ridiculous implications" like all of the "get it in"s flying around, as opposed to the traditional "help help dangerous ass help help the ass cries" Engrish in Jpop.

Of course, they've already been trumped for best Engrish by the power of
SANTA SAN SAN SAN SANTA! SAN SAN! SANTA SAN SAN SAN SANTA! SAN SAN! SANTA SAN SAN SAN SAN SAN SAN SANTA SANTA KUROOSU (san san san san) SANTA SAN SAN SANTA KUROOSU SANTA SAN SAN SANTA KUROOSU SANTA SAN SAN SAN SANTA! SAN SAN! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA! SANTA!
JINGURUBERU! JINGURUBERU! KURISUMASU!!

So does this count as mathcore too? Because then I suspect 90% of MomoClo's songs are this. And a good chunk of idol Jpop in general, for that matter.

I think this would just be diagnosed as severe ADHD. But thank you for writing down the lyrics, I was seriously considering counting the 'san/ta's myself.
