I liked it more when I was watching it. Now that it's ruminating, I realize it was quite blah. However, there was some moments of brilliance.

I like it better in my head if the Guv DIDN'T read her letter. Because it's hilarious that he gets all these little moral lessons like, "Obey the law. Don't hit women. Don't read letters out of turn." but he misses the big ones like, "Don't torture people."

It was quite fanficcy wasnt it? They even hugged. And the Guv had a manly break down. AND Alex was all psychiatry-ful. Having read every fucking fanfic on fanfiction.net, I can hereby certify that this ep was one metaphor ridden sex-scene and a serial killer away from fanficish perfection.

And I'm TOTALLY POSITIVE now that Ray is completely closeted for Chris. At first I was sort of LOL-shipping it, but now it's just fucking canon. When he did the Liberace thing, I laughed, and laughed, and then went, "Hold on, wasn't Valentino gay as well? LULZ!"

Yes. It was quite fanficcy in many ways. I mean, I expect Alex to do the moral lecturing, but the way they neon-lighted the "by the way, the Guv has principles" bits and had him talking about them reminded me of the Sensitive!Guv of fanfic. Even down to the fanfic trope of beating the stuck-up character up to get him to show emotion and to give the story a turning point, you know? It was quite hurt-comforty, except with less comfort because they had to get on with the plot and the format requires the main characters not to fuck. I mean, come on! Hurt man in a cell, feeling vulnerable, with the object of his love-hate affection showing him compassion! And it's kind of hilarious of the Guv to speak of a code of honour when the first things we see him doing in LoM are planting evidence and being violent and intimidating towards suspects. It IS fanfic!Guv. (And it's kind of cute, because it's pretty likely that it was Sam who taught him ~morals~. Isn't that a fanfic cliche as well? The Love Of A Good wo/man/Gladys Heals All ( ... )

Hm, yeah. Although I'm surprised you're doing episode reviews in the comments of my post, because those seem like the sort of things you are probably better off putting on your own journal--they just seem journal post-like. I don't even know who you are, really, so it feels weird to have these reviews dumped on me in comments by a stranger--and as responses to comments rather than the post itself, which is also a bit odd. *scratches head* I'd rather you did it on your own LJ, please, because it is weirding me out a bit (and if you've read my profile, you'll know I'm more than a bit jumpy about strangers coming in here). I can't friendslock everything, but I'm a pretty private person and easily irked, so, yeah, take it easy with me and give me some room... thought I'd give you a friendly warning, just so you know.

I was pleasantly surprised when Ray actually took some time away from being a total twat to actually figure out an important bit.

Yes! That was a nice change.

The Guv so did read the letter. I just think they didn't know what Alex would have put in it (possibly "Take me, Timelord"), or how he would respond to it (possibly "Sure, I seem to have a way with nutters").
Silly woman to pass out good-bye letters, anyway. Doesn't she realise that will just jinx it all?

RAY IZ GAY LOL.

Absolutely. There's no way they wouldn't have read them. And heh, it'd make sense if she'd written something like that to the Guv, because it'd mean the Guv would still be Confused:D.
