It seems to be that time of year again. Shark Week is very important to Shiro, so he persists in nudging me in the side whenever I fall asleep, so I don't miss the third reruns at 5 AM. Perhaps he hasn't been eating enough?

It's educational, at least. If I ever need to have an involved debate about sharks in English class, I predict full marks.

shiro, shark week

Why does everyone get so invested in it, anyway?

I have absolutely no idea.

I'd ask him, but I'm not sure I'd get a good answer.

I think he may have eaten a shark once.

It's a little... repetitive.

I would tend to agree... and yet, there's a strange fascination to it.

Sharks are amazing, but I guess I just prefer furrier things.

I suppose there's something in the human consciousness that enjoys the threat of being eaten every so often.

Some people enjoy the scientific aspect-- sharks have changed little since the time of the dinosaurs. And then there are some who are in it for the excitement and danger.

There's a festival for sharks?

Not exactly. It's more like a series of television shows.

Are they doing anything out of the ordinary or just eating things?

They're going about their undersea lives in a manner that is intended to indicate that they're not as dangerous as they seem all the time... but yes, mostly it consists of them eating things.

This may be one of their better inventions.

Damn straight it is. A week of television completely about something that is both badass and delicious.

I suppose there are some hungers that only a shark will sate.
