The Dragoons helped while Xigbar actually took the rooms. They guarded Xigbar, and supported Xaldin. Xaldin had to recover from the shifting while avoiding screaming. They didn't want anyone to know they were there, after all

When he can think again Xaldin buries his face in Xigbar's coat because that way he's able to eventually get his teeth around a flap of hood and bite down on it instead of his tongue.
When he finally stops he leaves his head there and says, "I wonder how many worlds I could stand, all in a row." in a distant and dreamy kind of voice. Not a fading voice. A voice that is so busy thinking that it doesn't have much left for speech.

And he does, one arm under Xaldin's shoulders, and gravity turned, so Xaldin doesn't need to be anywhere near the ground.
Layers of leather and cloth dampen the pain, but not discomfort.
