Basically, Athena has pneumonia (the vet (Dr. Hare) first said it was "an infection in the lining of her heart) so they couldn't do biopsy yesterday because of the infection. The anesthesia would have killed her. Dr. Hare also seemed to think the spots on her lungs were just part of the infection and not cancerous, or perhaps fungal ( Read more... )

OH, BTW, I was told by Dr. Hare (at South Branch Pet & Bird Clinic on Ben White) that because of the infection around her heart, if they'd put her under she would have died. So I get to the vet today with Athena. Dr. Hare pulls me into the x-ray film room. Says, "they told you about her heart, right?" I said no, they just told me about the spots on the lungs, but nothing about the heart ( Read more... )

95% certain this is cancer, by bloodwork and elimination of other things. She was 89/90 pounds a couple of months ago at vet, now she's 82 pounds and hasn't been herself lately.
