Update on Athena as of 10/20/06

She (Athena) didn't get operated on this past Monday, 10/16. The x-rays revealed she had pneumonia, so putting her under anesthesia would have killed her.

The recheck is to see if the pneumonia has cleared up and to see what further steps are needed.

The results of the needle aspiration biopsy they did on her side came back that she has an abscess, not a tumor. However I'm unsure of this reading as two other vets seemed to think it was a tumor of some sort. If it's an abscess, the injections they had me giving her should help with that. She's still lethargic and not eating much but the medicine itself could be having that side effect.

I don't know why she'd have an abscess underneath her ribs or what could have caused it, so I'm thinking that perhaps the biopsy didn't hit the tumor spot itself. At this point, I am unsure of next steps, if any. I may decide to take her to get a "fourth" opinion if the mass on her side doesn't reduce in size.
