To be honest, I am kind of reluctant to endorse this until I can figure out why the hell neo_prodigy thinks it's ever okay to use anti-woman slurs like b**** or c***, no matter how much you disagree with a woman.

Thanks for making me aware of this.

I've got some thinking to do. :)

Thanks for bringing this up. Sexism and homophobia as well... very troubling combination.

I was wondering if I'm hypocritical myself.

Maybe I am.

Or maybe I'm looking at it in conjunction with other things that I had a problem with already. Hm.

Thanks for this comment and giving me more to think about in regard to this in particular, and safe spaces in general.

I'm going to quote brightfame at you: Fen of colour are never going to move in lockstep on all issues of words, tone, beliefs, politics etc. No space can ever be truly safe for all my triggers as well as all of yours.

I think she's correct. In some places 'negra' is inflammatory. In others, it's merely descriptive. In some places, nigger is seen as provocation to murder. In others, it's merely descriptive. And this is us talking about us to each other.

I think cultural context is one of the problems with the way this was called out by Nick.

I also use similar language from time to time.

I also don't believe that one's behavior in his own personal journal necessarily dictates what his behavior might be in a community.

That it was a white guy calling him out and thereby uncutting a community very specifically not for white folks doesn't sit entirely well with me.

I have no answers, especially in the long term, but I have an observation. Fen of colour are never going to move in lockstep on all issues of words, tone, beliefs, politics etc. No space can ever be truly safe for all my triggers as well as all of yours.

I give that non ironic sparkly hearts.

I am feeling the same as you and I am also feeling as brightfame does in saying let's do Monday, see what comes of it, and decide whether to deal with FOC_U itself after that.

Would also be interested in knowing what he had to say about his use of bitches since I see you had a correspondence. But 'tis private :)

Seriously, I'm skeeved. I'm also delighted that there's another comm for poc-nonwhites-chromatics and whitefolk (that are clued-in or workingon being clued in) and if I have forgotten, I am reminded now that clued-in or working on clued-in applies to people of all ethnicities regardless of avowed commitment or affinity for celebrating humanity's diversity) on it to be fannish together. The more the merrier (hopefully).

But there's a huge "but" there for me. Not everyone is made of win on all counts is all. I wish neo-prodigy and everyone who participates with and benefits from what's scheduled for the 18th the best. I know I'll probably get something out of it whether I promote it, participate in it, or not.

Triggers aside, considering the title of the community is a pun for one of the most harsh swear phrases, I am probably going to have to stay out of it.

That's wearing the anger as a battle flag, and I maintain anger is not so much a tool as a loaded weapon, and nobody will hear what anyone else is saying while they believe the other party is pointing a loaded weapon at them.
