I hope everyone does post on Monday.

And I hope neo_prodigy reconsiders the defenses he's given for what he wrote.

I just felt a male privilege ping in the initial posts I saw from him--too many "I" statements and making it about self? Some ally work he still needs to do? I still have my own work cut out for me. So I joined with reservations.

I'm used to people using I statements. I prefer it. I lean on it quite a bit.

The thing that bugged me was the use of 'bitch'. The word 'bitching' doesn't bother me. It certainly bothers many other people and fits their definition of a gendered slur or sexist speech. I don't agree, but, I'm aware that some people can't respect someone who uses the word bitching or bitch.

I too picked up a male privilege ping, because, well, when a man calls a woman a bitch I tend to flinch because in my experience it's a gendered slur.

Editing my post to link to this one, if that's all right.

It's cool

Oh, dear, "glorified birth defect" too. Since my son--who I hope will be a FOC someday--has a birth defect, that one kinda jumps out at me.

However, sometimes people haul out a lot of offensive names when they're in a namecalling match with an apparent troll, that don't necessarily mean they hold those opinions. It's unpleasant, but it doesn't necessarily mean the person is not going to be moderate when moderating, or is viewing people with hate, even if they've used hateful language.

No, but it's exploiting and utilising the existing misogyny, ablism, fatphobia and homophobia in society to hurt someone. And if you do that, well, you're hating who they are, not what they do.

Thanks for linking and hipping to the fact. I've decided I'm not going to endorse or promote this thing, and removed the link from one of my recent public posts.

It may still turn out to be a great project, but it's not like anything particularly different than what we've BEEN doing from deadbro to IBARW to POC in SFF to Remyth.

You're welcome.

I think people are constantly doing them, sometimes in groups, sometimes within groups or as individuals. I know one gamer who won't rp white characters. That's their way of being them and being fannish.
