They don't seem to be particularly interesting books (classic novels for school and other boring, basic books, as expected from the Mayfield library), but he's stumbling over to the checkout counter with them none the less

My appearance is a bit uncommon back where I'm from, so I had to learn to ignore the stares and brush off the questions.

Not really. I decided against trying to dye it back a while ago. [And a smile.] I have a slight habit of tugging at my bangs when I'm frustrated. Have you noticed?

The spirited ones that dye their hair to express themselves-- okay, he was jumping to conclusions. ) ) Hmm, I never really thought about it that much but if I think about it. . . It was a few months back that I thought of dying it back to brown, but it's grown on me, as surprising as it seems.

I guess it wouldn't matter as much as I'm making it seem. Besides, there are so many different types of people here that I don't feel as awkward as I did back home.

So far the drones haven't run anybody outta town for bein' strange lookin', so you should be safe. Er, maybe not safe. You get what I mean.

There sure are. And I thought the people I knew back home were strange.

Thanks for the offer, but I need to work on the book report due tomorrow.

[It would be a fairly valid excuse.... that is, if they even had school tomorrow. Which they don't.]
