That make six Macbooks with HD issues. Reecie, Dad, Ilse x 2 and my friend Samia have all also had a HD crash irretreivably on them. Apple really need to fix this; it's denting their reputaion as the high-quality, reliable, user-friendly one.

It's a shame their service sucks. I'm glad you're not blaming the guys in store! Hope you had a good Xmas nonetheless.

Xmas was relatively good (compared to the previous month).

As for the HD crashes, It appears to be a known issue: http://www.techworld.com/news/index.cfm?RSS&NewsID=10532

The service I'm getting is actually through MacCentric's service team, but waiting on Apple to send the replacement drive. My frustration is that MacCentric won't just give me one that they admitted to having in stock.

Reminds me of when I had trouble with my 3400 and it went into service at Status Graph(?). The motherboard had died and a new one need to be got in from somewhere. Then they found there were problems with the memory, and needed to order that in from America.

The thing that really annoyed me about all this was that they didn't tell me what was happening. When I tried to call them to find out what was going on I got a less than competent person who couldn't tell me. And I never got a call back from a more competent person, despite requesting one.

So I was without a working 3400 for close to 3 months. It was not helped by the Buzzle merger happening at the same time.

So far they've been pretty open with me. I'm just frustrated with how long it's taking to finish a very simple job.
