Best Gameplay
Man, I have the sinking feeling like anything I say in this post will be used in judgment against me by faceless internet piethrowers for the next ten years.
Zone of the Enders: Anubis

The mecha designs are ridiculous, the plot's thoroughly incoherent, and the script feels like someone ran it through Google Translate, but damn was it fun.
Everything you could do felt so wonderfully overpowered, from the "no I am behind you" Zero Shift teleport to the homing missile spam right down to the simple act of grabbing an enemy goon by the head, using him to block a laser, and throwing him back at his buddies. The stage where you shoot down five battleships singlehandedly and the stage with you and a handful of grunts vs. enough enemies to color the minimap red were both serious contenders for my Most Epic Scene Ever response.
Hell, I'll even forgive that stupid "walking with the girl through the minefield" level, since she eventually gives you the "Grab you from anywhere" subweapon.
