Day 2 - Your favorite character
Now with 20% more obscurity flavor.
"My name is Sänger... Sänger Zonvolt! I am the Blade of Magus!"
Sänger [Saenger/Zengar]* Zonvolt
(Super Robot Wars: Alpha Gaiden)
Sänger's story starts, strangely enough, after the end. The Earth is threatened by an oncoming gravitational shockwave (caused by the space battle at the end of the first game, naturally). Sänger volunteers to place himself in suspended animation as part of the Earth Cradle project, to protect the last remnants of humanity in the event of any potential threats.
He awakens to find the world destroyed, the Earth Cradle under assault, and Earth's heroes nowhere to be found. Which is how you find him, seeing as said heroes were, in fact, catapulted thousands of years into the future before they had a chance to stop the oncoming disaster, and in your absence, well, things have gone poorly.
In a move that should surprise no one who's played a SRW game or spent longer than 30 minutes on the internet, Sänger eventually joins your cause and realizes that his loyalties lie not with the Magus supercomputer, but with Sophia Nate, the scientist trapped in its core. Future games make use of a less cryogenically aged Sänger, since your crew were able to return to Earth back in time to save it, but this is how I remember Sänger best: fanatically loyal, intimidating without being overly boastful, and, justifiably pissed off at you for abandoning humanity.
Plus, whenever he shows up in Alpha Gaiden this plays. You just know something's gonna get cut in half.

* - there is some contention over how his name is spelled; I used to be squarely in the "Z" camp till I found out that "Sänger" is the German word for "Bard"; when he tells you to shut up and listen to him, he means it.
