[She was out for a morning run. She'd gone for longer than she'd thought and now has to hoof it back to the garage, get changed, and get started at work.

Except...

Tires? She knew they could go for decent money. Especially on this dinky island.

So, have a coyotedog staring at you, Jason. She's just sitting there, staring. Her ears are forward but she's just watching.]

[Jason knows the moment he's being watch and turns around, glancing over his shoulder at Coyote from under his hood. Is that dog really staring at him? Frowning, he doesn't stop the swift turning of the tire iron as he loosens the last nut holding the tire in place. Carefully, he slides the cinder block underneath the axel and rolls the tire out of the way.]

[Mercy's just going to watch. She's got a collar on - run ins with the dog catcher are not something she wants to deal with - and sits back to scratch at her ear briefly.

She trots over and sits next to him, peering curiously at what he's doing. Her ear twitches in curiosity.]

[Jason glances over at the dog when she comes to sit next to him and he doesn't pause in his work as he gets up from his squat to move to the other front wheel of the car. He's not really sure what's going on with the dog, but, well, it's a dog so he doesn't know what he can do about it.

Not like it's a person who could rat him out, anyway, and most people didn't seem to care about those in the slums. So, he applies the tire iron to the next set of bolts, twisting it back and forth quickly and efficiently in his dirty hands.]

[It's only been a couple of days, but Cass has always been one to just dive right into work. She's cooped herself up in an abandoned apartment or two during the daylight hours to sleep, eat, and work on modifying her costume so she's not so obvious when she's out at night. She's starting on the poorer sectors for now, making them her home and trying to figure out what places - and people - need the most amount of help.

The tire issue concerns her, of course, but not as much as someone might expect. More than likely, it's someone poor taking them and pawning them off. They'll be caught fairly easily if she just keeps her eyes open on the streets.

She's wandering back to one of those apartments now, hands in her pockets, her eyes looking for any signs of the person she's looking for...or the tires that might have been stolen.]

[By this point in the day, Jason's prepping for the night and impending Darkness. Sunset and sunrise have become his least favorite times of the day because of the sudden blindness as his vision changed over. Sure, night vision was incredibly useful, but he didn't at all like the cost it came at. As he dons his domino mask and pulls up the fabric over his mouth, the makeshift costume is complete.

Okay, so maybe jeans and a black hoodie don't look super impressive, but they're needed. He knows which Bats are now in Port and he's doing his best to just stay off the radar.

So, as he finishes, he drops back down to the streets and spots Cass almost immediately. Crap. just his luck.]

[The mask and cover up over his face is enough of a giveaway that he's something. She doesn't realize he's Jason just yet, though she's seen the video Slade posted several times in the off chance that she'll run into him.

There's maybe a five second window where she doesn't move a muscle, though she's spotted him. And then, just that fast, everything changes. She moves, heading towards him at a careful gait, nothing fast.]

[Jason, unfortunately, has pictures of her from her post on the Network and has spent long hours this week staring at her image, as well as Tim's and Damian's. All those fears of being abandoned are back in full force, despite the mostly positive month he'd just had with Clark and Bruce, the trust that had slowly risen. It hurts, it hurts and he hates that he feels like this, period.

He doesn't need them, he's never needed them and this is his chance to prove it. So, he turns and sprints in the opposite direction of her. Maybe if she just thinks he's some random lowlife, it won't make a difference.]

[ He's read the news, but thought nothing of it. The article on the murdered newcomer overshadowed the reports of tire thievery. Damian did not have much interest in chasing a tire thief, anyway. To put it blunt, they were small fry to him. Something the police force could handle instead. He had his eyes set on finding out more about that murder.

The first place he thought to look was the baseball diamond. It was the most obvious start, and thus he could not take it for granted. It was his first time going out in this modified costume. The bright colours of 'Robin' were now a dull black and yellow, and he's added a hooded cloak not unlike the one worn in his earlier days. The whole ensemble lacked much style, but that was obviously not a priority to him. His father told him to drop the bright colours for now, reasoning that it would attract bounty hunters. It wasn't like he was scared of them -- let them come -- a costume change just wasn't that big a deal ( ... )

[Jason's not all done up in his uniform and is just about to leave the diamond's parking lot with another pair of tires, one tucked under each arm as he moves along, hood up and hat on as he enters the streets of the rest of the sector. Then there's a sudden sight of color overhead and Jason glances up to see Damian's cape. Yellow. Robin.

Robin. And the figure was too small to be Carrie.

His heart dropped into his stomach before he could stop it, but continued and carried the tires into the nearest alley, depositing them in a dumpster to hide them for the time being.]

[ When Damian arrives at the parking lot, the mark of the tire thief is glaringly present. Several car were resting on miserable cinderblocks. This wasn't the one he was going after that night, but he did not mind a quick sidetrack. There is movement. It's hidden well, but there. Damian stops and listens, before finally concluding where it came. Take this guy down. Do it quickly. Get back to finding the killer. That was the plan.

He starts to make his way toward the alley, hoping from building to building once more. If Jason is still there when he arrives, Damian will tackle first, ask questions later. If he isn't, he will investigate what's in the dumpster. ]

[Jason is about to dart away when his jealousy and curiosity get the best of him, deciding that hesitating just a second or two could be beneficial. He didn't really meet Damian before, but this could be a whole new Robin in himself, some other Robin that Bruce didn't tell him about, another replacement.

So, he plays the dumb criminal act, loitering for a number of seconds, but prepared to react to an ambush.]

[ Jason hasn't replied, and Bruce, from experience, knows better to try to hunt down the boy when he doesn't want to be found. So he waits until night falls, and moves out to patrol as usual, keeping Darkness monsters off the backs of those who are still outside during sirens.

It's very late when he spots Jason, dressed in his hood, and Bruce is already flying over the rooftops before he knows what he's doing. He stops near Jason, hugging the shadows and looking down, watching him.

He doesn't speak, and waits to see if Jason will acknowledge him this time. ]

Re: sector 10, midnight. why so creepy bruce. under_thehood September 10 2011, 17:04:23 UTC
[Jason thinks he hears a cape in the night and internally curses. Why couldn't anything ever be easy? Why can't he just pretend Bruce doesn't exist and move on? There's a brief hitch in his gait, but he keeps his hands in his pocket, glancing around for monsters that need killing. Honestly, even with the number of injuries that are still healing, the vigilante would rather be out and moving around than hanging around in the shelter or even in his new hovel. It's little more than a hole in the wall, but that's all he needs during the night. During those Bat-sleeping hours, he's usually sleeping out in the streets for a couple hours before getting up and going to work on the tires.]

[ Because he might try to pretend Bruce doesn't exist, but Bruce cannot try to pretend the same of him. Actually, he doesn't even try, because Jason is Jason, and Bruce doesn't give up on him. He doesn't give up on family, basically.

He watches Jason for a moment more before pushing himself off the rooftop, somersaulting into the air and landing in front of him.

(It's an easier meeting than anyone else Jason has come across before, no doubt.) ]

I'm still waiting for an answer.

[Jason almost walks into Bruce and has to take a step back to not do so. Sure, it's a physically easier encounter, but talking to Bruce is an emotional battle and has been since his arrival. Meeting Cass and Damian today has put the vigilante on edge, his nerves frazzled and at their end, but he's still out patrolling nonetheless.]

Nothing you said was a question. [His teeth are grit, more because he's drained, and would rather fight off something of the Darkness than talk to his father, especially when in their last conversation Jason called him dad. It leaves him in a very vulnerable place that he doesn't like.] Questions require answers.

[And he tries to walk around Bruce.]

Sector 4 mid afternoon?? athermercy September 11 2011, 04:07:12 UTC
[There was no particular reason why Elaine Belloc was on that place at that time with a corporeal form. Really none at all. Okay, there was. She had been spending too much time with her family in the Lux lately. That was it. She needed to get away from uncle and --not really but sort of-- cousin and take some fresh air. As much as she loved Adam and Lucifer, she knew she’d be bound to miss them when they were gone and she lingered alone in her Creation. God, she put her hands into her pockets as she walked while she mused about that. She didn’t think she has the right to feel lonely or sad about that ( ... )

[Jason's just dropped off his most recent set of tires in the Sector and, so, his hands are empty and the tire iron tucked into the waistband of his jeans as he trudges along the street. So far the day really hasn't been so bad, minus the run-in with the dog earlier and it's kind of nice after the numerous arrivals of his 'family' to the City has ultimately put Jason on edge, made him consider and re-consider his only friendship and the increasingly positive nature of his relationship with his father. There's no use to it now in the vigilante's mind.

As he moves along the road back toward the poorer end of Port, he doesn't really look around, not caring about making friends or meeting people, instead only about his current job and trying to scrape cash together. With a frown, he considers whether he should buy or steal his lunch today.]

[She was on that particular road, unknowingly (or perhaps not so ignorant) intercepting his path when he moved. Elaine was looking on the buildings around her, watching the people mingled and went on their routine -- Be it burden or bliss they got to carry. That was when she almost ran into Jason.

Almost, he was on the other side of the street when she crossed it.]

Hey!

[She called out to call his attention after she reached the sidewalk to approach him.]

Are you hungry?

[Way to go, she thought. She just couldn’t not be Omniscient, could she? Not with them. But the timing and the body language, she wanted to argue, could have been subtle clues.]

[Jason at first doesn't think she's talking to him. After all, he doesn't think that he stands out too much, but when she's asking if he's hungry, the teenager half-turns to face her, eyebrows furrowed. That wasn't really a casual question there; something's up.]

No. [He adopts a casual, amused expression as he shakes his head.] Not really. Already had some.

[A lie, but he doesn't figure a complete stranger will pick up on that.]
