[Art therapy is based on the understanding that the creative process of art making is healing and supporting of personal development. Creative endeavors are in a way life-affirming, or that's what he read today, and should involve a lot of quiet self-reflection. Typically, according to one website, they enhance one's cognitive abilities and capacity to cope with stress. And Claude Faustus has definitely been trying to deal with a lot of stress lately, all from sources he cannot control.

That is why he's here at the festival, taking advantage of this opportunity. He drank the lemonade, rented out a square on the sidewalk, and settled down beside a bucket of colored chalk. With his uniform jacket taken off and shirtsleeves rolled up, he draws and draws without getting a speck of dust on himself. His artwork is shockingly realistic due to how it creates an optical illusion: transforming the imagery from two dimensions into all three. It's a technique called trompe-l'œil, with history dating back to before Jesus Christ ( ... )

[Crona had never seen anything like this. There are so many people and colors and noises that it would have overwhelmed the meister just a few months ago (now, Crona will stay for maybe an hour and then go back home to quiet safe corners until tomorrow). Ragnarok is bored, sulking in his meister's veins because there is no cotton candy and Crona has no money for lemonade.

There are many many people, and Crona slinks along edges and waits for groups to pass and occasionally finds the shade next to a tree and stands there staring down at the grass until it feels a little less alive everywhere ( ... )

[It's been some time since Claude last created something just to create it. Much of the time, he uses creative energy to focus his mind for and on the day's tasks ahead of him. (For example, he'll indulge in one dance before beginning his morning routine. It helps shake off the last vestiges of slumber.) While there are other things he needs done today--going to the market, getting home before Sirens, grilling fish filets for dinner--he has a few open hours between now and then. So he's here and he's drawing, and it's pointless but also fulfilling; he's focused only on the art to barely bring this boat to life. Honestly, he feels a little like Ma Liang with his magic paintbrush, making pictures become real on a whim. Creation suits him, he believes, and he would've made a greater Creator ( ... )

[Crona glances up, startled. It's odd, being noticed.]

How did you do it?

[Crona opens a hand over the picture, not quite touching it, but wanting to, wanting to see what the chalk felt like.

A lifetime of not needing to fear anything, of being broken just enough to not be scared has done a lot to Crona that will never be fixed. Crona was never taught to fear strangers. This man smiles and says "good afternoon", and so Crona is not afraid.]

Once he saw it advertised in the newsfeed, there was only one person he immediately thought of.

Someone who would really like a day out like this.

So he made sure that when Namine woke up she didn't get the time peek at it, just told her that they were going to go out and do something special. It was going to be a good surprise. He made her put on sunscreen in case it got bright, and wear a wide-brimmed hat with one of her sundresses, and then they went down to the subway, riding the line all the way to Orchard Stop.

When they arrived at the school, it was busier than he expected, and there were only a few unclaimed squares still left open. They were in a nice shadier spot near a bench at least, and so he bought one for her with his munny and handed the blonde girl a pail of chalk with a warm smile.

"You go start on it, okay? I'm going to get us some lemonade."

She was too sure about this. It wasn't a matter of not trusting Joe, but settling into the city proved to be a little more difficult. Naminé had never had 'free time' like this or choices to make on what to do and how to just live ( ... )

His broken memories of the islands were much like this now, faded into hazy, indistinct moments filled with emotional impressions but few solid forms, their vividness dulled out like so many pastel shades. The chalk landscapes, as he passed them, reminded him of those lies...but in more of a nostalgic, pining way than he expected ( ... )

She almost didn't hear him. The stroke she made with her piece of chalk were still small and uncertain, and she was mentally fretting over what to draw. Maybe she was making a mountain out of a anthill, but it looked like Joe had brought her out to this for something special. So she should make something special, but what?

When she did catch his voice, she sat straight up on her heels and nodded a thanks. Her eyes trailed from the sidewalk square to him, and back again. Maybe it wasn't his intention, but Naminé felt like he was waiting for her, and with not knowing what to exactly, it wasn't going to help her come up with something special for him.

Unless maybe...

She turned back to him with a shy smile, "Do you... want to draw with me?"

Just because Harry had disappeared did not mean that Elaine had ceased to function. Okay, maybe she had spent a day or two searching for him by magical and physical means, and then spent another day or so unable (or unwilling) to get out of bed, when she had failed to raise him. But his disappearance meant that she had bills to pay, cases to investigate, pets to feed.

At least she didn't have to worry about cleaning house. Much. Apparently, when you inherited a domicile, you also inherited the invisible house-elves that nobody ever talks about.

She did have to worry about networking. And actually working. And keeping her magical supplies stocked. But she figured if she hit the fundraiser, she could hit all of the above, and maybe keep an eye out for news of Harry as well. Chalk is always handy in the hands of a wizard--and besides. Elaine liked kids.

Jubilee had grabbed her piece of sidewalk, and her chalk and was happily working away under the sun. She used the back of her hand to push hair out of her eyes, her hands covered in multi-colored chalk. She bit her lip, working on the lightning surrounding a beautiful woman with dark skin and white flowing hair.

She glanced up as the spot next to her was taken. "Claudio! Wondered if I'd see you out here." She began filling in some of the clouds. "What's up?"

?[Lets hope this posts. Come on LJ!]

Drawing. It was something he did extremely well and something he got paid for. It felt odd to be paying to draw, especially on sidewalk where it will wash away by the nightfall. Still... it was an interesting idea, and it was to help someone out.

He knew if Jinx had the time for it she would show up, but he also had the feeling he'd know another artist who would be here. When he saw her already drawing he smiled. "Figured I'd see you out here as well." Yep, sure enough Jubilee would be here. Taking the empty space beside her he crouched down, leaning in to look a bit.

"She's pretty. I like the hair." He smirked, settling back on his square and dusting it off with a hand.

Jubilee used the side of her hand to blend some of the colors together. The chalk dust stained her clothing and her skin, and there was another streak on her cheek, but she didn't care. This was for a good cause.

The picture is just an outline for right now, but she's hoping to get it done.

"Thanks." Jubilee leaned in, blending colors again. "Got a plan for what you're doing?" She asked.

Claudio settled down on his knees, sitting back on his feet and stared down at his space. Drawing came easy to him for some reason. He never had to practice it, it just... was. He had been commissioned four times now in the past year to paint large murals at mini malls and the sides of buildings. He'd even been noted in the news once for how lifelike the last one was. He could paint a realistic spin to the props in the theater like no ones business. This would be no different, if he tried. But he decided that he would just go with the flow on this. It wasn't like it would stay there forever ( ... )
