The rain had put the boy in a bad mood all day. By time he got to work he was soaked and pinkish red, like spoiled meat or something. He showered at work, changed and did a few hours feeling grouchy and annoyed. Wet people coming in and dripping on the bar or floor all night. It was like people had never been in rain before. Forgot how to deal ( ... )

"Shouldn't be. Skye has a good program." It was simple enough to apprenticeship with them. Or so it had seemed.

"I know. But, as this place proves, what we don't really have a choice, right now what the Core does. At some point we might but..." He sighed. "My home, Genosha? It was nuked, just before I arrived. I'm not looking forward to going back to that." Be he had to.

"I guess it can't hurt to look into that. I like Skye. It's a nice place." He wanders it invisible from time to time or chats with people. Or he used to. Now he has two point five jobs to worry about. With this he'll take on less sleep, but it should be worth it. "I'll wander down there later today maybe."

He frowned however. Nuked? That was drastic. Why would anyone ever want to go back to that. "But if you could... if the Core would let us? Wouldn't you want to stay here? I mean... it ain't so bad after you get used to it, right? And you got people here now, kinda."

"It is."

"I have people here. I people I care about. But people back home? I vowed to protect. My children. I can't just abandon them. I'd go back home. It's where I belong. I understand that not everyone feels the same, but..." And he did understand. But he needed to return home.

He frowned still, leaning on the table. "But if it's true, what they say, then nothing back home is in motion. Nothing is changing. You could live your life out here as you might want, if only the Core will keep us here. If we had the choice to stay then go home, wouldn't we just return from when we left? A second chance to continue our true lives?"

Hay, it was something he thought a lot about. He wanted to live to enjoy this life before being thrust back into being alone again.

"It only matter to me, I suppose. But it's...who I am. Being here isn't going to change that, just delay it. I wouldn't begrudge any one their time here if they wanted to stay." Not even if they wanted to stay permanently. He was sure a few of his kids wanted to.

He looked like he considered this then just nodded, taking a moment to sip the last of his coffee before placing the cup on the table again. "I understand, I guess. It's better for some people to return home. I know I should, I just..." don't want to. He's scared, but he can't quite admit that yet. He shook his head. "Still, guess it aint so bad for someone like me. Maybe I'll remember what I learn here when I get sent back."

"Hopefully you do, yes. Benjamin told me he remembered this place like a dream when he went briefly home." Erik wondered if he was going to remember this place. He would if he had any say about it.

"But I do understand the hesitation."
