Here's the thing: Alois will always be able to find Ciel. He's sure of this - he's made sure of this. He will check everywhere- every room, every box, every hopeless place, and he will find Ciel Phantomhive.
Once again, the other boy's taking refuge in the atmosphere of his mother. Alois stands yards behind him, trying not to breathe too quickly, and his eyes are red-rimmed. (So are his hands, and the sleeves of his shirt, in fact. That's blood, there.)

"I don't mind it." It's a soft, monotonous reply. Ciel doesn't turn, his back against the tree, fingers wrapped around his knees. It's a similar position, one he took when they were caged by the cult. He's trying to make himself small; unseen.
He wants to disappear.

It's very much a demand, but his throat feels thick.

Maybe there was, but it had already been erased.

The trouble with Alois, however, was that Hannah could not find him. Before, Hannah had relied on knowledge and empathy when seeking out her master. There was no contract between them for her to pull on, after all. Yet for all her instincts she could not find him. She had reasoned that if he were in trouble, there would hardly be a soul in the house who wouldn't know about it. But this Alois was different, but then perhaps that wasn't so much the case anymore. So Hannah had wandered, somewhat aimlessly. Down halls, even to Ciel Phantomhive's room (and Rachel's, just in case) and nothing ( ... )

He'd taken it upon himself to isolate himself from the situation - to get away - and the only fitting place he could think of was Rachel Phantomhive's grave.
When he heard Hannah's voice he didn't care to look at her. He was still trembling, fingers shaking as he gripped onto the handle of the gun he'd fired. "I don't care. I'll catch a cold regardless of where I am if it's meant to happen."

Instead, she closed the distance between them. Stood just to his side and read the name on the gravestone with passive interest. Morbid, she thought. And then: sad, too. She glanced down, first at his head, then what of what she could see of his face, and then at the gun. Her fist tightened on instinct, but Hannah remembered his little declaration from their last encounter.
Alois was safe then. She exhaled a breathe she hadn't realised she had been holding.
"You shouldn't resign yourself to things which are easily prevented," she said softly. And then, with a fleeting look at the gun: "Should I ask why you were firing inside the house?"

"I was provoked by Claude Faustus." That would be enough words for an answer. Those very few spoke numbers, after all. "Shouldn't it be obvious?"
