He was mostly recovered from the incident with the Bronzedust creature, though he still coughed at night, his vision had mostly cleared and he'd been able to go back to work for a few days now. He'd woken up a little early to accompany Watanuki on a job his employer had asked him to do ( ... )

The coughs weren't as bad as it was two weeks ago, nor was Doumeki's skin marked with patches of discoloration. Watanuki spared him a glance from the corner of his eye as they walked, noting how his posture still looked off, especially when he was coughing ( ... )

Doumeki himself was feeling significantly better, other than the slight clouding of his senses from a lack of sleep - he'd only had a couple of hours between getting home from work and leaving to go with Watanuki on this mission. Still, it didn't bother him so much, and he was becoming more accustomed to this sort of thing now. Besides, he wasn't about to let Watanuki go alone into the slums, where the spirit activity was high enough that sometimes it seemed like Darkness during the day. Not without some form of protection, and he himself was the best form available ( ... )

Perhaps it was a side effect, and perhaps it wasn't. The slums were like the shop, places where spirits collected and blended with the world of the living, ultimately making both realities spill over. If they weren't careful, they could end up in places where they didn't intend to go.

Watanuki's lips curved into a small smile as the old man guffawed, took off his beanie, and rubbed his crown, where his messy gray hair was the thinnest. The digits sticking out from those cracked leather gloves were tanned and wrinkled, but wiry and strong. His jacket, which was made with the same material as the gloves, had all sorts of tools and oddities sticking out from its various pockets.

The old man returned the smile and nodded at the two of them as he put his beanie back on.

"So you're the new kid he was talking about. Took him a bit to send you over."

Doumeki felt a bit wary at first, but it was a reaction he couldn't quite help, taking a step up behind Watanuki and watching the man. There was a genial smile, though, from the man, something about him set Doumeki at ease after a moment, and he hitched up his bow again, keeping it at the base of his arm, his shoulders relaxing slightly, though he still stood behind Watanuki.

The man, at least, seemed nice. Doumeki didn't have much to say to him, since it was, after all, Watanuki's outing. He went over the instructions in his mind, turning his head slightly to glance at the houses. They didn't look very lived-in, he had to admit, but after that storm it was likely there'd been some damage, and the old man may be staying somewhere else for the moment.

"We were lucky you happened by just now." Doumeki said, his voice quiet but firm, and ducking his head slightly in greeting and acknowledgement.
