One way to be my journey, this way could be my Book of Days.

Who: Watanuki Kimihiro [successoroftime] and Doumeki Shizuka [drainedpaladin]
When: morning of March 16, 2010
Where: Sector 10 (the slums)
Summary: Watanuki's employer asks him to find an old friend who promised a rather delayed delivery, and Doumeki tags along. A tribute to old canon stories.
Warnings: none yet

The sunlight shone in slices from the holes on the aluminum roofing that stuck out in odd angles. Watanuki raised a hand to shield his eyes as he passed by a particularly bright spot, holding his coat up so it wouldn't get soaked in the fetid water that was still pooled in the cracks on the road, once held by the overturned mud-caked buckets that were now lying on their sides on the far end of the street. A small black blob bounced close to them and partially slipped into a pothole, and Watanuki nudged it along with his foot. It wouldn't be good if anyone somehow stepped on that, even if it wasn't there in a physical sense.

The flood had taken two weeks ago, and this place still looked like a disaster site. But who can blame them, since no one from outside the slums ever visited?

Sighing, Watanuki stopped walking when he reached the next shanty, slipping out a note from his pocket and rereading the instructions again. The man who his employer was seeking out should have had a house around here somewhere, but it will be difficult to tell if he moved out. There weren't many people to ask, and the two others they've talked to only moved in after their place was cleaned of grime.

"Should we check the houses? It doesn't look like anyone's still living in this row, but they could always still come back if they wanted."
