[ After a frantic night of checking absolutely everything - making sure he was all in one piece, all his data collected together and secure, untouched - Ash contacts the network for the first time in months. And he sounds less than happy, to make a considerable understatement. The usually smug and collected voice sounds rattled as it patches ( Read more... )

There was a power failure affecting the entire city.

[ ... wow, someone actually gave him a simple and useful answer. If ASH believed in miracles, this would have to be one. ]

A city-wide power failure? How annoying. Is there a cause?

[She's just full of those!]

That is as of yet unknown. The only correlation was an attack on the Core that occurred just before the failure.

Were you injured? Do you require assistance?

The attack on the Core... I should have guessed. [ dammit Kadaj. ]

Like hell I do. Why are any of you bothering with these idiotic questions?

[ This time, Yako doesn't respond with a video; she's still a little too shaken up for it. She does, however, sound very tired. ]

The City's power was out for a while. It's been kind of ... stressful.

[ ... And, well, she can't imagine he'll react well to this: ]

Since you don't remember anything about it... I'm guessing the power to wherever you are must have been shut down too. Are you all right?

[ unfortunately, he's not the least bit sensitive to her tiredness, especially in his somewhat-fretful state of mind. He only responds to the latter part, sounding testy - the program's thoughts are elsewhere. He'd never been shut down before... ]

Yes. Don't pester me with such a pointless question.

[ You don't sound all right, she almost says, but unlike someone else, Yako has tact (or a rough approximation thereof). Instead: ]

Isn't there a way to find out if you lost any data during the power outage? Like a backup, or something.

[ tact? what's that? CAN IT BE USED AS FUEL ]

I've already checked, you nosy little brat. I haven't lost anything.

[ ...probably ]

[ now that he understands a bit more, he doesn't sound too pleased to hear from Kadaj. ]

What the hell are you talking about?

I told everyone to report. You never did.

[ oh. Must be talking about something that happened while he was out. ]

And whose fault do you think that is? Hm?

[That voice was familiar, taking Mayuri several minutes to place before he recalled the robot that he had spoken with at the Sero retreat.]

Interesting. I suppose that you're referring to the lack of power to most of the city, even a number of generators seemed to fail for the duration.

That's what it looks like. This city really is full of useless garbage.

My, my, you simply have to have someone competent actually build something rather than relying on simpletons like those of the shops here.

[ he sounds annoyed. ]

I'm the one building these things, idiot. Those fools cutting the power is the problem.
